Here is another article...

LIZARAZU RETURNS TO BAYERN
Bixente Lizarazu has re-signed for Bayern Munich on a short-term contract in a surprise free transfer from Marseille.

The 35-year-old left-back only left Bayern in the summer to move to the Ligue 1 outfit, but he decided to curtail his 12-month deal to return to the German giants, where he won the Champions League in 2001.

Bayern spokesman Markus Horwick said the former 1998 World Cup and Euro 2000 winner, who announced his retirement from the France national team after Euro 2004 in the summer, had not enjoyed the best of times at the Mediterranean club.

"I think he was not very happy in France and we have a problem on the left-hand side at the moment, so it is a good deal," said Horwick.

"In the summer he left but it is normal to keep up contact with a player and we always had a good relationship with him."

"He has signed on a free transfer and he will be here until the end of the season," he added.

"He is also available to play in the Champions League." Lizarazu will provide vastly experienced cover for the Bavarian club, until the summer, when they welcome back 21-year-old left-back Phillip Lahm back to the Olympic Stadium following a two-year loan spell at Stuttgart.

"It will be good to have him here until Phillip Lahm comes back, and I think it is definite that Lahm will return," Horwick added.

"Bixente will join us at our training camp in Dubai tomorrow (Thursday).

"I am sure there will be no other players joining us (before the re-start of the Bundesliga following the winter break)."

Lizarazu spent six years at Bayern before the club refused to offer him a new deal, and he switched to Marseille at the end of May.

However the veteran defender struggled to hold down a first team place at the Stade Velodrome, and watched the side drift 10 points behind top flight leaders Lyon.

It is understood that Lizarazu instigated the move himself by getting in touch with Bayern coach Uli Hoeness to enquire about a possible return.

Hoeness has been unable to fill the void on the left so far this season, with right-footed midfielder Hasan Salihamidzic being forced to play out of position.

Does this mean Rau probably does not have much of a future at FCB?

I would think so but Rau can also play LM and Ze might be leaving so if they don't replace him then Rau might be played there.......

Probably? Most definetly! They wanted to sell him to Nürnberg, he rejected that, now they have Liza, next year they will have Lahm, so I guess it looks pretty bad for Rau.

I really like Liza, but I wonder if he's still good enough? One reason why he wanted to come back to Bayern was that he didn't have a place in the starting line up for Marseille.

He made 14 of 19 games, so he played regulary. But in the last weeks he wasn't really content anymore, maybe because of the new enviroment or because he didn't play international games with Marseille. He played for Bayern half a year ago and proved that he's still good enough, I don't think he became much worse in the last 6 months. We will see how he will perform, if he performs well his contract could even be expired, he wanted to play until 2006 anyway.

Ok, thanks. I only heard that he didn't play international games so I assumed he wasn't in the starting line up. Good to have him back in Germany.
