Figo on outer as Real Madrid's Luxemburgo prefers Beckham
tribalfootball.com - January 4, 2005

Luis Figo is being linked with a move away from Real Madrid this year.

The Portugal international's contract expires in 2006 and he is yet to hear from Real president Florentino Perez about a new deal.

DiarioSport says Figo is upset with Perez as he has been ignored while the likes of Roberto Carlos and Zinedine Zidane have been signed to new deals over the past 12 months.

Its been suggested new coach Wanderlei Luxemburgo intends to play David Beckham in Figo's position on the right-side of midfield for the second-half of the season, with part of the reason being he doesn't regard the Portuguese as a long-term option.

Figo declared last summer that if he didn't receive a new contract offer from Real by December that he would start looking for a new club.

yeah.. figo can play on the both left and right.. what luxemburgo said may not be reliable as it doesnt come out from him personally.. i will seriously be very fustrated and disappointed with the coach if he ever ever does that.. even so. i dun think the fans would allow becks to take figo's place.

tribalfootball is recognised as one of the most unreliable football sites there is, icy. probably dont want to take anything they say too seriously, :) but yes, beckham over figo is insane, if you had to pick only one.

The last bit of truth found in that rag will be the first.

agreed. it should be a forum rule that tribal football stories cannot be reported - jus kidding, but really dont take that site seriously.

i think if lux decides he prefers becks over figo he should play that way. we no longer want to have a manager who plays players because perez wants to make money. i think it should be his team, he sees the players in training, if he makes the call then thats that. we need the manager to start controlling the team without fear of florentino looking down on him!

It's not like it's a bad idea.

it is incredible some of the stories they can come up with
my problem is that i go on google news, type in real madrid and because tribal football is one of their listed sites i get excited or disappointed about the news that comes up, and only when i see its tribalfootball i stop believing

You know, Figo can't play in the 7 minute game. I wonder if that is the source of this ridiculous Beckham favored over Figo rumor. Luxa probably has Figo on the "B" team at practice opposing the A team.

in fact Figo didn't take part in the evening training today as he is playing in the 'match against drugs' in Villarreal.

speaking of that villareal match...becks was the best player on the pitch.

replacing figo with beckham isnt a bad idea...beckham can do somethings on that right wing that figo cant...with beckham feeding crosses to ronaldo like he usually does...madrid is unstoppable

but right now, figo is doing more work than becks.. he is feeding in more crosses than becks.. so i think that haveing an underperforming becks to replace an outstanding figo is sort of unwise

haha something ive been saying ever since they stuck beckham in the central ofthe pitch. must have have been one of the worst things they could have done
