Clint Dempsey says "I didn't care for the lifestyle" about HOLLAND?

I don't know that he could find a more accommodating place to play in all of Europe, or a place more accepting of foreigners. If he's not happy there, he wouldn't be happy anywhere in Europe.

Maybe he's a big Austin Powers fan.

From the "More U.S. Flavor..." article:

"You've seen the name [Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink] pretty consistently in the Dutch scoring charts and were probably wondering if it was some kind of misprint. It's not."

Big props to any sports section that assumes reader familiarity with the Dutch scoring charts.

Just because Holland is very accepting and accommodating, doesn't mean that it doesn't have it's own life style.

The climate's different, the food's different, and the entertainment is different. He is still fairly young and I think Landon Donovan has proven that these things can be difficult for some people to over come.

Someone explain to me why RSL has to ask MLS for more time to find a stadium?
I haven't heard of SJ or Metros asking anyone any time recently.

I'm guessing that when Checketts cut the deal to land the team, he told MLS he would have a SSS plan in place by year end.

Ahhh, when there is trouble in US Soccer, Jaimie Trecker is there to celebrate. To paraphrase Jon Stewart, Trecker is the douchebag of sports writing.

Living in the Netherlands for a kid Dempsey's age would be quite an adjustment, new language(s), small apartments/hotel rooms, everyone smokes, dope smokin', tiny cars, assigned seats at movie theathers, dogs in restaurants, etc. I can see why he missed home and found it uneasy to be there, even if everyone accepted him just fine. Heck, Danny Szetela (sp?) didn't even Columbus at first, although, I expect he likes it now well enough. Most college kids feel the same way their first few weeks away.

I think he just got thrown with the Royal with Cheese thing more than anything else. :)

It appears that Texgator has never been to the great state of Utah, where mayo is mixed with ketchup to create the ever interesting fry sauce. Never caught on with me in my 4 years there. Maybe Dempsey could go play with RSL to get used to the mix and then move to Holland where he can then handle the straight mayo.

If you think mayo with ketchup is something the stormin' mormons created then there is a whole list of places you've obviously never been.

He also appears to be living in some sort of time warp:

Take two of the more storied teams from the same coastal city -- Everton and Liverpool. Both are solid performers and consistent title contenders. But both appear badly mismanaged and in drastic need of capital infusions.

The last time the Toffees were a consistent title contender was 20 years ago.
