I'm looking for some advice on good books to read about soccer formations, tactics, etc. I want to understand the game at a high level, but am open to reading helpful books geared towards coaching youth as well.
Thanks in advance!

Video is what you need, specifically:
Individual Attacking
Group Attacking
Individual Defending
Groups Defending
Methods of Training Individual Tactics
(All of the above are by Jape Shattuck, and available through Soccer Learning Systems)
NSCAA Tactical Development DVD
That's a good start.

Hi K.P., here is a link that contains a number of good coaching resources, books, DVD's and web sites. There are several pages where you can find direct quotes as well.

One of the best books out there on tactics is Mark Catlin's The Art of Soccer (www.jbgoalkeeping.com/shop_books.html#soccoachbooks).

You can also try Reedswain (http://www.reedswain.com) for a number of good books and DVDs.
There's a new book titled "Soccer Tactics Training" you might want to look into.
