The Most Overated Player

What is your most overated player. Mine is Oliver Khan the guy is a waste and always fumbles.He only plays respectable for Germany.

I agree with that, for the Khan of today. I had great respect for him several years ago and I think he deserved his credit pre-WC 2002. In my opinion Deco is given far more credit than he is worth. He has less talent than many of the other Portuguese players. I don’t know what Barcelona was thinking, signing him.

My vote would have to be for NT's Henry - what a waste of time this guy has been. him and Del Piero both have never done anyting really.

Well, Pele is obviously overrated. Which is not to say that he wasn't a great player and one of the greatest ever ... but his Brazilian league goals are vastly inflated. By the current Euro standards, they'd be on the level with Mario Jardel's Porto scoring spree - very nice but about 1/2 of their nominal total compared to the premier leagues in the world.

He also was unable to do much in 1/2 of the World Cups he had participated in, although the 1966 failure clearly wasn't his alone.

He was deservingly given considerable limelight in 1958 but many of his achievements came only after other teams began concetrating on Garrincha, who was the real star of their first WC game together against the Soviet Union.

As a side note, the Brazilian teams of that era was also greatly helped by the Euros inability to properly scout their South American opponents and stopping the great offensive players without ever seeing their moves was doubly difficult. After the TV became more common in the world, much of the Brazilian mysticism had disappeared and the opponents stopped being so much in awe of the undubitably great players and Brazil came back to the pack.
