Every other confederation has an award that they give out every year for their best player, and we don't. What's up with that? Also, who do you think would have won the award this year, and in previous years?

There may be one or two people at CONCACAF who follow what the players do; the Press Officer and the Dep. General Secretary...neither follow the leagues closely ENOUGH, and that certainly wouldn't be the way to do it anyway; you'd need a Competitions Committee (or the CONCACAF equivalent, which is a "group of committees") to be in regular, real-time engagement with the sport, "feet on the ground"-style, with compiled stats, and transparency of process, to have anything that's legit in any way. Thus, with all that real work involved, you're looking to the wrong Confederation for that type of thing.
E.g., the "group of committees" is headed by Blazer and Sasso Sasso; neither of them is interested in the work involved in doing that at all.
Bottom line: if you all of a sudden DO see an award crop up, know that it is not the result of any stat-based rigorous (and, most important, transparent) process, but rather, more likely, the result of a quick conversation, a query from someone on the Exec. Committee, and a political expediency.
CONCACAF=pure politics, even more than FIFA, because at least people KNOW about FIFA, and thus there is the natural kind of oversgith that comes form just being in the public eye.

Landon Donovan was the US Player of the Year. Who was the Mexican player of the year? Also count Guatemalan Carlos Ruiz in for the award.

They don't need a committee, they could just let journalists vote, or, they could do it like the FIFA player of the year award and let each national team coach and captain vote.

Rafa Marquez, Paulo Wanchope and Landon donovan are the only 3 possible candidates for the award.

No $$$ to be made off the top or on the side in such an endeavour; now, if you could find a sponsor of the award willing to hand CONCACAF $$$, with no due diligence, for the right to do all the work and just attach the name of CONCACAF TO the award, it would be done in a heartbeat.
Of course, that very approach to CONCACAF is what devalues its brand so much that fewer and fewer folks are willing to do that, and the ones that are are not quite the types of characters that are looking to promote excellence in the region through a Player of the Year Award.
Sorry, but this is your reality right now. Rest totally assured, I know.

Rafa Marquez by a landslide. but it would be nice if we could only give the award to players currently playing in CONCACAF, since we're pretty much a developmental federation anyway.
