Word at the Moonie Press is that Wright will be the No. 2 beat guy for the Nationals and not cover DCU next season.
No more thinly sourced United stories to kick around anymore.

I wonder if they have someone there already for No. 1 Nationals beat, or if Wright is going to be working under a new hire.
Or, if they have someone ready for United. I can't see Haydon doing it on a regular basis.

No need to worry. We can trust the Times to supply some hack to write misleading and poorly sourced stories.

I'm not too concerned with anything the Times does re: United, but this is a bad sign of things to come. I'm sure Goff will push for as much ink as he can get for us in the Post, but we're up against a new local team that spans our entire season and even being champs + Freddy can't overcome that kind of media buzz. I predict that other than the opening day story, we get most of our media mentions as the 'other' occupant of RFK.

Now there is an idea.
A stupid one, but still an idea. :D

No big deal to me! As long as we have Mr. Goff, I'm more than happy! Keep up the good work Steven! :)

Who's Wright?

I think it probably means less coverage. With the baseball team, they won't need to put filler articles in as often. Too bad. I enjoyed kicking Mr. Wright around.

When are all the gloom and doomers going to realize that the Nats will simply replace the Orioles in local coverage? DC United will still get the same amount if not more since we're coming off a championship season AND we'll be sharing RFK with the Nats. Some of it could be negative, ie: field conditions, scheduling, etc....but I'd rather we stay in the forefront of the sports page than not at all. Just get ready for perenial pains in the ass like Kornhole and Fisher to come out swinging at us.

This is (sadly by default) the best news from the nationals coming to town yet.

I am wondering if we could ever have a Wash Times discussion without the Moonie crap...
To be fair I am going to refer to the Washington Post as that left-wing fish wrapper from now on.
--Moonie or not Haydon writes good stuff and there have been times when Wright wasnt half bad either, out doing the fish wrapper on occasion.
Their sports section is generally pretty damn good. I prefer it for Redskins information to the Post.

Amen...
Unlike other posters here, I don't have personal agendas in ripping the Times at every opportunity.. I know Ken Wright the person, he is a cool dude.. Affable, approachable and he'll talk to you. He'll be missed in the press box.. Was Ken the most accurate or articulate United writer? No, not really, but he was honest and wasn't afraid to tip over the apple cart at times..
This news is no suprise as he was told during the playoffs that he will be doing the Gnats..
Maybe that intern that raised so much fuss about the Ryan Nelsen quotes will get the job. :D

Gotta love the intellectual capacity of those making ad homenim attacks on the Times. I guess you take debating lessons from Mark Lisi.

Totally agree.
I strongly prefer the Washington Times for more informative and fair articles over a broad range of topics, going into depth and details you never get in the Post. All the knee-jerk Moonie bashing is beyond old. It just exposes one's intolerance and ignorance. My guess is that most such knee-jerk critics never read the Times.
Specifically, as to the Wright criticism, my how spoiled we are. Yes we have S Goff, but I for one, appreciate all the local soccer press. I can agree or disagree with the article, but, unlike the deliberately sought and earned vitriol shown to Korn...., I've always been bemused at the Wright attacks, and for the most part, thought they were over the top.
I wish him well in his coverage of "The Team That Shall Not Be Named."

NHL's absence makes the sport easier to ignore (http://www.washtimes.com/sports/20041229-120629-8991r.htm)
At this pace, the NHL may find it is creeping closer to Major League Soccer than to the big three of professional sports.
Speaking of the Times, I can't decide whether I should be p1ssed off about this quote or saddened. I think I'll just ignore it.
