I came across this while laughing at the Metros boards.
It's a nice piece on Petke. (Even if it does say he still likes Jersey :D)
(note: it may ask for your zip and age to access... but thats all they want)

Mike Petke has spent the past couple of weeks driving through New Jersey and Long Island visiting relatives during the holiday season.
One such drive just happened to take him past Giants Stadium.
"It brought a little tear to my eye," Petke said yesterday. "But everything worked out for the best."

I flew into Newark and right over the Swamp on my way home for Christmas.
It made me cry, too. But I think it was the fumes.

I know many people have long forgiven Petke for being a wanker. Maybe I'm the lone dissenter, but I still can't forgive.

See this guy in the United jersey lifting a cup . . .

I heard that Petke went on to say that he hopes that he ends his career wit the Metroturds as well. God, I hope not! What a way to end a career! Why would anyone want to return to the dark side. Come on Mike, haven't you seen the light already!!! :D

It's the shirt. When you wear it you're one of us, esp. if you play with all your heart as Mike does.
Would you think more of him if he didn't dedicate himself to the team that employed him?
There's nothing to forgive.

I know many people have long forgiven Petke for being a wanker. Maybe I'm the lone dissenter, but I still can't forgive.I suggest you consider a reconciliation in your mind about Petke's swamp time. I got my issues out front with him the first time I met him. I greeted him with a "******** you ... now welcome to DC" on our first meeting at the Exchange pre season party. Even funnier, I then directed Mike to Red&Black, whom he recognized immediately. I'll leave the details of that talk to R&B, but they are cordial.
Mike's got a taste of Championship fever through his play with DC. He's got many friends in Jersey. The playing part is DC, the personal part seems to be both (his child was born here, after all). I think DC is still a winner when comparatively weighing those two attributes. If you can reconcile yourself to him (he still loves the "Petke is a wanker" chant) it'll make you feel that much better.
If not, well, we can always joke about the triple suck allocation! :D

I was standing right next to you when that all went down, I gave him the old  and just laughed it off and shook his hand. Mike's a great guy and I know he loves the fans and being here. Like we've said all along, he may be a wanker but he's OUR wanker. I hope we read in the Post that he's signed his new contract soon.

Wanker has been a great guy from day one. My first meeting with him was a bit less cordial than GM's. First I blatantly ignored him and then as a GDopplarXT introduced me, I basically told him that I thought he was crap and hated him. He really proved himself to be a class act then. Over the last two years, I've got only good things to say about him. He's proved himself on and off the field. Not only that but he has enbraced the name Wanker and the "Petke is a Wanker" song (not by choice I'm sure, but because they are bonds the fans have made). A class act all around and if he wants to end his career at his "home town club" so be it. The Metrodonkeys always need another burned out central defender to make Adu look good... :)
I absolutely hope the contract gets done and Wanker is back with DC next season!

Guy plays his ass of for us. He grew up in Long Island and played five seasons at Giant, and he was talking to a local media outlet while he was up there. What would you have said in that situation?
Petke busts his ass for this team, and helped win us a cup. If there had been anything to forgive, he's punched his card already.

I was surprised by him saying he thinks he only has another 3 years left in the league.

If he goes back to Metro his career will indeed be over.
ba da bing! I've still got it!
(I think Big Mike is a class act. No doubt)

Exactly.
I was figuring he wanted to go back to the METROS when washed up just so he could gift us some easy goals.
After this Cup, Petke is United through and through :D

You can take the Wanker out of Jersey, but you can't take the Jersey out of the Wanker. As long as he's not wearing their jersey (so to speak), that's all that matters.

I think Mike has been a great addition to the team. All year he has proven to be a class act, and dedicated to proving himself as worthy of wearing DCU our crest.
If the Wanker wants to go back to Jersey for his last season then so be it, he deserves it, but DC is the only team he will ever win a cup with.
