Regardless of whether there is agreement or not with what he had to say, it's great to hear from Tab Ramos again... I wish he'd consider coaching in this league....

And there we have the first tolerable headline that's a play on Adu's name!

This article was a real disappointment. I thought it was going to be an article about DC United's post-season victory trip to Scores.

Tab makes a good point. I believe it was Preki, who a few months ago, said something similar. He said something like the league is missing the one or two plays per game that spectators really hope to see. I will support MLS forever, but I think there's truth to it...

Interesting though that I was just reading a Metros thread where fans were ripping him to pieces for his performance and legacy in MLS and specifically the Metros....

Not me... I understand the fans' frustration, but i can't blame the guy for getting injured considering his history before coming to MLS (big elbow to head particularly in mind), his commitment to both club and country for the first few years with Metro, and finally the fact that he played in the worst possible field possible (that of Giants Stadium) which sort of went against the type of soccer he could provide.....hence all the additional injuries....

I figured, since he is offering such strong opinions on the situation of the league and its level of play, maybe he'd like to chip in as coach and help change MLS for the better, something which he could not do as a player with all those aformentioned injuries....

Ignore them. Metro fans will rip anything and everything these days.

Great article. While driving through predominantly black neighborhoods in Brooklyn, NY last August (somewhere around Prospect Expressway/Ocean Parkway, I think), I was pleasantly surprised to find many, many parks filled with black kids playing soccer. These were fields enclosed with mesh fences on all sides. Around here in the Bay area, most of the inner city soccer seems to be dominated by Mexican immigrant community. More and more penetration into inner-city communities should be good news for our sport.

The Events that shaped 2004 - N.Y. Times (http://www.nytimes.com/2004/12/28/sports/soccer/28soccer.html?oref=login)

Freddy Adu brought international attention to the league when he made his professional debut April 3 at Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J.

I just want to know how he came to this conclusion.

Mr Ramos got his money while he only played a few games for his Metro career. Now it is a lot easier to stand on the sideline and talk about the MLS.

Damm shame if it's true (which it appears to be).

First we had the Metros never making it past the first round of the playoffs, now Adu making his MLS debut in Giants Stadium. Jack Bell must be on drugs.

That's how we know soccer will have made it in America, when half the articles about it don't have errors in them, especially the AP which frequently has mistakes.

Christ, what's with the unwarranted character assasination?? Jack Bell is a talented writer and an even better person. If you have a problem with what he wrote, contact him instead of complaining about it here. Yea, those were two errors, but was the information that crucial that you needed to character assasinate?

Ramos: "Friendlies and all that stuff, I could really care less," he said. "But when you see a qualifier, a must-win situation, man, I wish I could put my uniform and play."

Hey, is this the first strike breaker?

i'd rather not back-up nyr metros

but he is right... back the ******** off jack bell

he made a couple of mistakes... the man has broken tons of stories for us... the two slip-ups were insanely minor

i am a bit surprised he hasn't jumped in here and apologized... but then again... when he posts on bs, he does it somewhat incognito (trust me, it ain't)... he just doesn't draw attention to the fact that he covers soccer...

try emailing the guy and see what he says... i'm sure he will answer you

iirc, his email is jbell@nytimes.com

if that's wrong, check the soccer media directory in the business and media section for his email... i'm sure it hasn't changed since i put that in there (noting that i'm not sure the email i just listed is the one i have listed in the directory)

Why? We agreed on the same thing. What would be the harm?
