View Full Version : Another USSF v USSPA Labor Impasse thread
Put the money in trust....let the games go on...if USSF needs for operating capital, they can borrow against what's in trust (calculated share)....there should be a passable 'range' for both sides to borrow until dispute resolve.
It should never get to point of jeopardizing prep and/or matches. That would be ludicrous and unnecessary.

Put *what* money in a trust?
Exactly what revenue is the USSF getting for the game in Port of Spain?

Besides, until November it was assumed that any deal that was struck would be retroactive to the last contract - meaning virtually the entire USMNT pool would be getting some rather nice checks covering their involvement for the last two years.
It's tough to use games already played as a bargaining chip.

At the end of the day, its about money (gotta be). There are ways to protect the integrity of (the future deal) and keep things from stopping (strike). It starts from there...
BTW- (If its not clear)...I'm talking about a framework that would/could last for months and cover several games if necessary..

The problem with this solution from a negotiating perspective is that if the Fed can put the money in a trust then they can use it to pay the players. A trust like this substantially weakens their position and I highly doubt that they would ever agree to put money in such a trust.

Yes, but if the players propose it (and are patient waiting for 'their' share) then it puts Fed in very uncomfortable public position....likely uncomfortable enough to acquiesce..

Everyone should just relax.
We have Krautmann coming over. He'll take care of everything.

I wrote the following to the USSF using their website:
Dear USSF,
I want to urge you to quickly settle the contract dispute with the USA players. I don't know much about the details of the dispute, but to borrow from an old nursery rhyme I do believe that the players should be considered as the "golden goose". It you can't come to an agreement with them before qualification you run the risk of damaging our prospects for playing in the 2006 World Cup. We will all suffer if this happens happens: fans, players, sponsors, the USSF's treasury and most of all the future of the game in the USA.

Just sent my two cents to them. I hope the fans will put a lot of pressure on them to do the right thing.

I just sent a message as well.
I honestly believe that locking out the players will result in the loss of about 10 years of progress. Personally, I have several friends who have been turned onto soccer and follow it closely thanks to the latest successes of the nats.
For once, I'm with the players here.
We need to make a concerted effort here to ask the USSF to get its head out of its arse.

I'm being serious here. It looks like both sides are pretty entrenched right now, based on reading the other threads on people who have called USSF and the Wheelock interview with Mark Levinstein, the player association director.
So who best to mediate? The Fans.
Can we get our heads together and come up with suggestions?
Mark Levinstein is the USNSTPA (United States National Soccer Players Association). Based on his email address and the address on the contacts pages of the players website, he is a partner with the Williams & Connolly law firm in Washington: http://www.wc.com/attorney.cfm?attorney_id=160
Who wants to volunteer to get him and the USSF powers in a room to get it sorted out? I'm in.

Let's have them both lay out their latest offers and we will vote on which one is the best.

Sounds good to me. I doubt it's going to get fixed with just the people who only care about the money. I'm assuming most people here don't really care about the money but agree the players should get paid more but care more about qualifying and not losing to anyone in the process. If I had choice I'd grab everyone involved tell them to stop being stubborn pay the players so they'll stop whining and play the game and we can all go back t watching them kick everyone else's @ss.

I think this should be resolved with a vote. Im just really pissed at how both parties talk about completely different perecentage rises and decreases and so forth. Maybe the whole issue is over someone with a broken claculator doing the claculating for one of the parties.

I agree with Father Ted. I wouldn't mind going into the room and talk to both sides. If there has to be a fan group to get involved I wouldn't mind being the voice of reason.
I volenteer :)

well... each side is going to list stats to support whatever they want... so if we were to mediate... we'd be screwed
they have a great idea what is there to be had... and they need to come to an agreement
and they need to do this before wcq starts
