With the 40 points in the bag, it's time to focus on Europe. Let's start with UEFA since Moysie would get pissed if we set our sights on the Champions League so early!
We are now 12 points clear of seventh place. We should be able to hold that lead. The only team that I'm beggining to fear a little is Spurs. But otherwise UEFA seems to be a certainty.

Yup, I agree. It's too early to say that we can do anything. It is, after all, only mid-season and lots can happen. I think UEFA is a good goal. We can start discussing Champions League if we're still in position to do so come April.

It's my understanding that only the top 5 teams are assured spots in Europe.
The 6th place team also goes if
1) both FA Cup finalists qualify for the Champion's League
or 2) the League Cup champion qualifies for the Champion's League

it's only the top 5 that definitely qualify for europe....
top 4 get in the champions league
5th get in UEFA, joined by the FA Cup and League Cup winners

It's Top 6.
It used to be the Top 6, but a few years ago the FA decided to give the 6th place team's spot to the League Cup winner instead.
For instance, in 2003/04, the EPL standings were:
1. Arsenal
2. Chelsea
3. Man Utd
4. Liverpool
5. Newcastle
6. Aston Villa
But the English teams in Europe in 2004/05 are:
Champion's League: Arsenal, Chelsea, Man Utd, Liverpool
UEFA Cup: Newcastle, Millwall (FA Cup runner-up), Middlesbrough (League Cup winner)
Note that 6th place Aston Villa did not make Europe

I've never really had any interest in Europe until the season before last where Blackburn pinched us to 6th and got into Europe it must have changed after that. I can't understand why they feel the need to keep changing things personally.
