Can you rank the best full backs in the world? Top ten from both right and left?

(P.S. if something like this has been done before, please give me a link to that thread).

is it just me or is roberto carlos extremely overrated (as a defender and free kick taker.)

He has seen better times, but he's still the most complete Brazilian player of the last 10 years. I admire him. The problem is that, as a defender, he doesn't necessarily have awesome defensive skills, but he does his job pretty well and is an invaluable contribution to his team's offense as well.
Oh, and I think he's a wonderful free kick taker! Not among the elite, sure, but man can he shoot.

he's not really that complete of a player. and mosts of his free kicks are terrible ; the thing is, when he does make one, it's usually pretty spectacular, but for the most part he doesn't take them too well. so many people remember the few goals, rather than the dozens of misses. he definitely has seen better days but he's never been that great of a defender, for he often neglects defending to attack and when he does defend, it's usually ok or subpar.

In a couple of years Roma's Mancini will be in this list. His emergence a year and a half ago allowed Roma to be able to afford offloading Cafu for $$.

not really, Cafu was a revelation for Milan. Roma thought they were offloading an old, aging player who could not play like he used to. But they were wrong and gave Milan an essential part in their Scudetto campaign last season.

From what I've read here on BS, and other places, I do not believe that many Milanisti share your exuberance over Cafu. We did offload an old, aging player who does not play like he used to.

if you think 36 year old cafu is a revalation, then i wonder what you think about roberto carlos. i mean both of them arent good to me. all cafu does is dribbble and cross and shoot from tight angles. he can tackle, if there were world class right midfielders in italy then i would think he would be challenged

Well this Milanista does share his view. Cafu has been great since he arrived at Milan. With all the running he does each game you would not know he was 34 years old. Plus he still has the pace to keep up with any player in the world. Signing Cafu last year, for free mind you, was one of Milan's greatest ever signings. And the way he is playing I can see him playing for two more seasons at the San Siro.
