hey, im just wondering if there is any reason for me to buy some of those small shinguards, without straps or anything... are they really that special? and do they flop around when u run? my guards with straps and the ankle protector thing do their job well enough... but im thinking that there is a reason that so many people use the smaller guards. can anyone help me out here? thanks!

I used to use bigger, bulky shinguards, and I recently purchased a pair of smaller parker osi shinguards, and they are awesome. They dont get in the way and very light. I would reccomend compression sleeves to keep them from moving around. I am a scrappy striker and everyone knows how I play, and I get hacked a lot, so I do have more bruises than I used to, I just feel more comfortable playing in smaller lightweight guards.

...just my 2 cents...

its a prefrence thing i had big adidas ones, and then i ordered adidas lesto ones from soccer.com. they offer little protection, but i am able to move around more freely.

Yeah man after years of wearing bulkyguards thru. sheer fear of mebe one day getting tackled (not a brag, but I rarely ever get kicked), I got the Nike OSI guards, and I luv them. Definetely recommed them as the OSI meant they fitted sooo snug I didn't need compression or anything really to hold them in place until after a year or so, now I just tape them in place and thats pretty much perfect.
Plus have the benefit of avoiding the bulky ankle protectors, which allows me to wear snugger fitting boots (a definite plus now I switched to Vapors). Only a small difference without the ankle dealy in theory, but gives me the added freedom thta reminds u when u play wid no guards in sneakers or wotever, I just prefer it. Tho. I will admit im forever cutting my standing ankle with the trailing cleats on my kicking foot (sum might remember Becks doing that and soaking crimson thru. his white Real sock last year, tho. they made out it was an argentinian defender as a continuation of the falklands war against Beck, but u actually see him cut his own leg accidentally!), showing that u are alot more exposed to injury, so it does depend on ur type of game I guess.

I use small shinpads. I dont like having all that bulk around my ankles (yes i know the bulk is there to protect me ankles against flying tackles!) but i just prefer to feel the ball around my ankles.

I do find that they dont move 'around' during games. But sometimes they do tend to slip down. Sometimes i wear some a bandage to hold them up this keeps the pad in place. Or if i dont do that just a little bit of tape around my sock does the trick.

Its just what you prefer and feel comfy in. I just dont like massive shinpads with ankle supports. So i just wear slip down ones. That arent very expensive.

Anyhow thats my opinion!!

I used to use the contour bps guards. They are big and bulky. Great if you want 3/4 of your lower leg protected. Not so good if your looking for a small guard.

i have a pair of nike slip in shin pads which i use together with SEPERATE white nike ankle guards which i place over my team's red socks (think Cristiano ronaldo). as i currently use white boots (lunar manias, or they were white when i bought them lol) and use white tape to keep my 'armour' in place (colour coordination is paramount), i look like something out of a fashion show. still, it works for me.

Guillermo

ps. now i have my all black mi adidas preds, i'll have to change team or something so i don't clash
