There is an unwritten rule in webforums; if you don't know what you're talking about, don't post!
lol five trophies ! Chelsea fans use that one when they talk about Vialli, you know, throw in the Charity Sheild and those silly meaningless European Super Cup "pre season friendly" things and yeah I guess you've got yourself a pretty successful manager ! Of course the other way of looking at it is he's delivered silverware in only one of the seasons he's been with you (how many are we up to now, five, six ?). Even the legitimate trophies he won were a little fortunate to say the least. Outplayed by the Goonas, scraping by Birmingham on pens and the farcical 5-4 game that no one wanted to win. Not that the UEFA cup means anything anymore.

It becomes patently obvious every time you post that you know bugger all about football. How many managers in the time that Houllier has been with Liverpool have won 3 trophies. You'll notice I didn't count the Charity Shield or the Super Cup. And please enlighten us, who out there is a better manager? Who has come up with the gems that GH has? Hyypia, best defender in the league, Riise a great wide player, and Milan Baros-scoring for fun now that he's got his chance.
And you have never answered my previous question. Who do you support?

Here we go again Foxhound he calls himself. But he’s too much of a coward to post his team or where he’s from. Tripehound maybe...!!!

Good result for Liverpool on Saturday. Maybe I was premature in writing you off.
I have nothing against Liverpool, it's fans or even Gerald Houllier. I just feel your results do not always match your performances. Or maybe this is the mark of a good team, winnign when they don't impress. However, it looks like another top three finish for you this season. I still feel the credible challange to Arsenal will come from Man Utd, providing they get their house in order.

You’re a whiney little piece of snot aren’t you? You still sound whiney when you’re trying to suck up. Perhaps you should just disappear back to your own club’s board (assuming you haven’t been tossed off it)
Still scared to post your team and city…???

No, we're discussing Liverpool. That's what we do. You, on the other hand, are making inane, totally pointless observations ("Houllier is pants" ... oh, but we ARE glad you stopped by ... ) from the sidelines and then getting all huffy when every other poster here (common denominator: know what they are on about) basically just laughs in your face.
If you want a proper conversation, then don't start off in here like someone who just wants to get kicked about a bit. Goes back to that whole thing about how pathetic it is to waltz in an give it the big one when you haven’t got even the basic facts straight (a la “Houllier has spent more than any other Manager in the history of the English game.” or “Houllier has been in charge for 5-6 years”).
It’s dead simple. It really is. But apparently still beyond you. Which is why the rest of us are consistently urging you to seek out a board that addresses the issues faced by your own club, because there really is no use for a pet chump around here. We’re fine as we are thanks.

Wasn't he in joint charge for the 97/98 season too ? Wouldnt that total 5 or 6 Seasons ?(depending if you count the joint year ).
OK obviously I dint take Fergie into count on money spent. Mind you at least he has delivered. Outside of him who has spent more though ? Considering the inflation of prices in current years only the recent managers of the top clubs are in the running. Wenger has spent peanuts compared to Houllier. The only other one who I can think may have spent more is O'leary, hey and what happened to him ...
So guess I do know something of waht I'm talking about huh. Instead of getting on your high horse you'd be better to state rationally where you think my arguement falters. It's not like I'm flaming. My club won't win the premiership, until I came here ,I'd of taken you lot over any of the others.
And lastly, messages boards are for free open debate. If you want a nice little "click" where you can wank off with your delusional Houllier praises then why not join a Yahoo club, and be free from tossers like me.

Well I think we were trying to "be free from tossers like (you)" by encouraging you to mend your ways and discuss intelligently or F*** off.
Houllier has hardly spent funds in an exorbitant or unplanned way. He has brought in intelligence and stability when he needed it (McAllister, Litmanen) and bought young and realatively inexpensively (Baros, Doiuf, Heskey, Kirkland, Riise, Traore, Vignal, and the two French lads yet to arrive). This helped Liverpool move forward in the League and in Europe every year he has been there while keeping us with a very young and promising future. When one adds Murphy, Gerrard, and Owen to the young one's above you see a core of players with six to seven years of prime footballing to come.

It’s called a “clique”. And my views on Houllier are grounded in fact, not delusion or, as is the case with you, complete ignorance. As for being free of tossers like you, I am still hopeful that whatever vestige of self-respect you still have willl eventually kick in and do it for me. No one likes mocking the afflicted.
Substantiate? OK - someone has to teach you, I guess. He joined in 1998. He took sole charge in January 1999. It is now October 2002. That adds up to considerably less than “5-6 years”. But let’s lay the semantics aside.
Houllier’s net spending compares favourably with every other manager in the league in that period. It positively blows Sir Moanalot out of the water. Delivered? Where has Houllier failed to deliver? He took us from seventh in 1999 to second last season (with the third highest Premiership points total ever and our highest points total since 1988) and has won three major trophies along the way. He has sorted out problem positions all over the pitch, attracted top notch talent, delivered Champions League football where, three short years ago, we were failing to qualify for the UEFA Cup and he has done all of this with a squad whose average age is the pubescent side of 25. That’s demonstrable, inarguable, consistent DELIVERING.
I’m sure that if this were 1989 and we were discussing Manchester United instead of Liverpool, you would be making wise and worthy announcements about how Alex Ferguson is “pants”, has spent more than any other manager in the history of the English game (he would have just splashed a then whopping £8m on Pallister, Irwin and Parker) and will never win anything. I mean, this was the man who had been in charge for three whole seasons and had just signed Ralph Milne, for Chrissakes! How could anyone expect any serious trophies from this Scottish clown?
I bet you were shouting “bring in Terry Venables” like all the rest of those clowns were at the time. Actually, no - what am I saying. The only thing you were doing in 1989 was having your laces tied for you.
Getting on my high horse? Mate, that beast ain’t even saddled up. And I am still looking down on you from a towering height

No offense Matthew, but you are such a pompous, arrogant twit that I reckon this is the only form of deabte you ever get. Surely it's the only safe form, reckoning that many a time you've ended up with your nose quite literally put out of joint.
If I was one who called for Fergusons depature in 89 then for sure I was not the only one. For your information, the game has moved on infinitely since. The cut throat politics of today bare little resembelance to that era.
The only thing he has delivered to Liverpool is a medicore side that thrives on the long ball (hence the sale of Fowler and the continued support of Heskey). Houllier will be found out, although his deceptive record ensures safety now. Arsenal have moved on infinitely, Man Utd need to regroup but will come again. Liverpool though, under Houllier will continue to buy average Scandinavians, Africans and Germans to accompany one or two exceptional talents - the very talents Houllier conveniantly inherited.

I am going to disagree with you on this.
But let's all keep the name calling to a minimum. We are all entitled to differing opinions.
I understand were you might have the perception of Liverpool playing the long ball and being mediocre. But as Red's fans we are going to disagree on that. It just isn't true.
Have you seen us play much this season? We are fast being converted into one of the most adventurous attacking teams in the premiership. Who is responsible for this? Houllier is of course.
Since he took over in 1999 (sole control) his first aim was to shore up the worst defence we had seen at Anfield in many a year. Can't win anything if you keep leaking goals.
Since that time he has been rebuilding and refashioning this side. If it means we play Roma or Barcelona away and come away with a nil-nil, then so be it. The great teams of the70s and 80s did that too.
I was in Rome the night we won the 84 European Cup (against Roma in the home stadium) we played negatively at times that night too. Anyone care? No, cos we won the European Cup!
As for the average Scandinavians, Africans, and Germans. Let's name names here. Are you seriously saying that Hyypia, Henchoz, Riise (Scandinavians); Diouf (African) and Hamann (German) are average?
Hamann is world class, one of the best defensive midfield players in the world, never mind the premiership.
Hyypia and Henchoz are the best central defender partnership in the premiership. Name me a better pair?
Riise has been outstanding for the Reds from day one. And still young.
Diouf is still unproven I admit. Did well in the World Cup. Still needs to learn better tight control, but a lot of foreign players take time to adjust to the premiership.
Ok, I answered your post without name calling, I expect you can answer my post with your own retort.
Then you might be made a little more welcome around here. I don't think you came to pick a fight, so I won't retaliate.
So let's just debate the issues, ok?

Ferguson spent almost seven years building a league championship winning team and a further six years to win the Champions League. By those measurements I'll say Houllier is doing damn well and is in front of schedule compared to Sir Alex. Liverpool ended up in front of United last season and are in front now as well as being one of only two unbeaten sides in the league. Houllier is building Liverpool brick by brick. Liverpool are closing the gap to United month by month now. There is hardly any gap to close anymore other than in the bankbook. Some United fans hate this, but better get used to the reality.

Long ball. You haven't watched Liverpool lately have you?. When did you last see a game, 1999?
You can not honestly believe any of this surely. Mediocre Scandinavians, they left a while back. We now have Hyypia and Henchoz two of the best defenders ANYWHERE! Not to mention JAR who has a cannon, and makes intelligent runs, can play more than one position, and was sought after by several other clubs.
Germans? Tell me who in their right mind would not want Dietmarr Hamman in the midfiled. All the ability Robbie Keane, but with out the psychopathic baggage. Babbel, when healthy is world class.
Arsenal has moved on infinitely? They are currently 2 whole points in front of the Reds.
Medicore side? If constantly moving up in the league and winning trophies is your idea of mediocrity, then I will accept mediocrity. If you think it means what it truly does, then you've misusued it here. Replace Liverpool with Southhampton, and then you'll make a little more sense.
