As an American soccer fan only one game:

USA 2-Mexico 0 WC02

To beat your most hated rival in a world cup match was extra special.

1994 European Cup final :(

My favored Barcelona were no match for AC Milan to the tune of 4-nil.
After wiping away the tears, I could do nothing but applaud Milan. Even I had to concede that they looked awesome that night.

real betis 2-1 barcelona (estadio lopera, a couple years back)

when i got to seville, the girl who was supposed to have gotten my ticket didn't come through. went down to the stadium anyway, with plenty of cash, ready to pay whatever it would take to get a ticket. but there were simply none to be had.

so i'm standing in seville. there's a fantastic match going on not more than a hundred, or so, yards from me. the atmosphere from the crowd is unbelievable. but i can't see it, 'cause i'm on the wrong side of the stands.

The only game where I actually teared up a little was USA - Columbia in the '94 World Cup. I think anyone in their 40s, or older, that had spent years fighting the battles for this sport had to feel like they had a small part in the result.

There's 2 matches that made me cry, one was in joy and the other in pain as a Brazil fan.

First the bad, every Brazilian of Brazil fan will tell you (unless you were living in 1950) will tell you this is their most gut-wrenching heartbreaking loss ever:

Italy 3 - Brazil 2 WC1982, the Italian striker from hell Paolo Rossi  awakes. This was THE most entertaining football side I'd ever seen grace a football field. There wasn't a single simple easy goal scored by Brazil at that
WC, every goal it seemed had a touch of panache to it. More entertaining to me than Brazil 1970 personally.

The good Brazil winning CopaAmerica 2004, what I recall that day was Brazil being down 2-1 to Argentina at the end, and even my Brazilian friends I was
watching with had conceded defeat. Well we all know what happened next :)

Yankees-Red Sox Game 7 :(
But for soccer it's USA Germany in the World Cup. Also U.S.vs. Poland for some of it, because I couldn't believe how after beating Portugal we still wouldn't make it to the next round. After that there was unparalled bliss.

Mine is a toss-up between Euro 2004 Italy v. Bulgaria and Euro 2000 Italy v. France. I didn't cry after Italy-Korea WC 2002 because 1) we deserved to lose, 2) I was too busy screaming at Byron Moreno.

Bayern score in the last minute in Hamburg to rob Schalke of their first title since 1958, on May 19th, 2001.

Most horrible matchday ever.

Man City 2:2 Gillingham - 2:0 down in the 88th minute and consigned to another season in Division Two (Or whatever its called these days) I began bawling, seven minutes later I was thrashing about like a dangling puppet being hugged by three beer monsters and the bloke next to me who I had found so intimidating with his skinhead haircut was kissing me and crying tears of joy. I remember falling down a row of seats too and shinning my knees. Still got a scar from it, but it was all worth it.

Stoke City 2:5 Man City - When we got relegated to the second division. Cried watching the special highlights on Granada.

Ipswich Town 2:1 Man City - Getting relegated from the prem under God. AKA Joe Royle. It was miles from home, had spent 6 hours getting there, and was drunk.

and another one, but not because of the result

Derby County vs Man City (1992) - It was an away match at Derbys old baseball ground, the terraces were still used in them days, yet the Polis decided to keep 3000 standing fans including me and my dad (I was 8 at the time) outside the pens til 2:57, so when the gates opened there was a mad surge to get in, I got seperated from my dad, swept down to god knows where, struggling to not fall over, ended up somewhere on my own, all I could see was a row of coats and jackets in front of me, the tears started, and I got crowd surfed to the front. Didnt see my dad all game either so I was miserable. Scary experience though, if someone had fallen over in that rush then there would have been deaths, no doubt about it.
