If you can do 10 pressups/pushups in a row and, say, 50 situps, then just continue with that until you feel that you're ready to increase the amount you can do by about 5-10.
Pushups help to build your chest, so i'd guess it'd be helpful in muscling a player off a ball or keeping a player away from the ball while you have it.
Situps help build core strength. Core strength is good for SO many things (stability, power when shooting, etc.). Just make sure if you're doing 'em that you do a variety of different kinds so you can get a full abdominal workout (upper, lower, and obliques).
Also, check out this for more ab exercises. The majority are with weights but you can do the basic crunch ones (ie: twisting crunch) without weight.

Well, I completely forgot to put this link (http://www.exrx.net/Lists/ExList/WaistWt.html#anchor172895) in on my other post :p ("check this out for more ab exercises").
If you've pulled a muscle, you need to stop and rest. Let your muscles recover before trying to exercise them again. If you begin feeling any pain you should stop cause you're overworking yourself and it could lead to injury (pulled muscle...).
http://exercise.about.com/cs/abs/ht/Crunch.htm That gives a decent idea as to how to do a proper situp/crunch. I'll try to find something with pictures but not sure if i'll be able to. The crunch (weighted) is an okay example but he's holding a weight behind his head (which you don't need to do). I usually just put my arms across my chest instead of behind my head.

idk the name of them, but the best upper body exercise is a handstand pushup.
start by doing a head stand near a wall and push up. at first just hold yourself for as long as you can. try getting to the 3 min mark. at that point you can start actually doing pushups.
