His quote has been twisted around a lot in the second one. He actually said they would have to consider a 'ridiculous' bid (which is fair enough) but now all of us a sudden (like according to The Mirror yesterday) that means they'd consider any bid.

i know king's contract is till 2008 but how long is defoe's for?

Defoe signed a 5 yr deal when he joined, so that's down to 4 in Jan/Feb 05 = 09? But he's got another one on the table that would add an extra 18 mths to it, and a pay rise (up from £15-20k he's on now).

King signed an extension to his deal at the end of last season, it was due to run out this year but he's tied down to 2008.
