This article came out after SLC was awarded their MLS franchise. Notice that several sources state the Seattle group 'needed' 2005 to get all of their stuff together. Makes me wonder why SLC didn't need all that time, too. In any case, what will Seattle MLS/Sounders do in 2005 to further their MLS cause? Will it all be behind the scenes stuff, or will we actually see a season-ticket drive to measure interest?

So far the USL-1 Sounders appear to be going about preparing for 2005 with a 'business as usual' approach. In other words, completely under the Seattle sports radar. :(

A additional year allows the Seattle group to get commitments for ticket and suite sales, potential television and radio partners, and corporate sponsors, said Mendoza, the PSA board's leading advocate for soccer in the public-private stadium.

"They just didn't have enough time to get going on some of this stuff," Mendoza said of the investment group led by Hanauer. "They need to have the opportunity to go to the public and say, 'We're willing to put up our money, now are you willing to support us?' "

The extra year would give the Seattle ownership group more time to solidify and allow the team to debut in 2006 with Pacific Northwest native Kasey Keller, who has indicated a desire to return home after his Tottenham Hotspur contract ends next season.

The top candidates to become the 14th MLS team in 2006 include San Antonio, Houston, Philadelphia, Rochester, Toronto and Portland.
