You really don't want to know how this ended. :(

"Glenn McGrath took career best figures of 8-24 as Australia raced to a 491-run win over Pakistan in the first Test.

Pakistan began the fourth day chasing 564 for victory but were dismissed for just 72 as they succumbed to the paceman on Perth's lively Waca pitch."

Hope they (Pakistan) improve for the Boxing Day test in Sydney.

Hope they (Pakistan) improve for the Boxing Day test in Sydney.I must be getting too excited or (more likely) stupid in my old age.

The Boxing Day test is in MELBOURNE at the MCG (or Telstra Dome / Docklands if the G isn't ready in time).

The 3rd test in Sydney starts in the new year (Sunday, 2 Jan 2005).

Pakistan's attempts to get runs, that was some great unintentional comedy. ;)

Pakistan finished at 10/72.

Yeah, as in ten-for-72. I know some pub teams around here that can bat better than that, and that's well into the second keg of beer, too!

In defence of the Aussies, though, some fantastic bowling, after it had been perceived that the batters' first innings had been a shambles.

This is getting too boring, and lopsided. Something needs to be done to make international matchups more interesting. (Same thing about the Bangladesh - India series, about which I'll post a separate thread a little while later.)

I think we need to step back and admire just how good this current Australian team actually is. We've got some of the greatest players to have ever played the game in the side at the moment, the likes of Shane Warne, Glenn McGrath, Adam Gilchrist, Ricky Ponting and Matthew Hayden. It's up to all the other countries to raise their level to compete with ours. I actually hope they do this, as I'd rather see our team tested. The matches against the rest of the world next year should be good.

Boxing Day Test - News

Justin Langer is in doubt for Australia with a back injury for the 2nd test against Pakistan which starts on Sunday at the MCG. Simon Katich has been brought into the team if Langer doesn't pass a late fitness test.

I'm back, after going to the MCG for Day One of the Boxing Day test yesterday (didn't get to see much, I was there working, and pouring beers and serving drinks to my share of the 60,000-odd patrons there)...

Currently, on the second day, Australia is in its early phases of its first innings, and they have a reasonable target to reach.

Pakistan all out for 341 -- Cricket Australia's site (http://www.cricket.com.au/portal/site/cricketaustralia/template.MAXIMIZE/menuitem.4a871880c089f6ed371ae9104420a2a0/?javax.portlet.tpst=803614c3b83d99e6ed499b1025d62dbc_ws_MX&javax.portlet.prp_803614c3b83d99e6ed499b1025d62dbc_viewID=content&javax.portlet.prp_803614c3b83d99e6ed499b1025d62dbc_docName=Pakistan%20dismissed%20for%20341&javax.portlet.prp_803614c3b83d99e6ed499b1025d62dbc_folderPath=%2Fv7%2Fcricketaustralia%2FHomepage%2F&javax.portlet.begCacheTok=token&javax.portlet.endCacheTok=token)

Seemed that it took forever for the fourth Pakistani wicket to fall, as they were hitting Shane Warne pretty hard. But once it did, the other wickets were falling a pretty quick succession.

Australia made a good score on Day 2, but the Pakistanis took some key wickets as well.

well they do have planned they world allstars thing vs australia coming up. as for the Bang-Ind ODI's- Bangladesh actually won the second ODI, what a shocker!

sweet, had to be fun working there. actually, according to match reports day one was a bit dull, right? the large crowd had to be fun no less. too bad the rain keeps getting invloved (now with day 3 again).

here are some totally random cricket thoughts-

my aussie ODI jersey is very nice. i had got the childrens size 14 and am not embarassed to admit it.... ok, i am. the adult small was too big, and the size 14 fits just right. however it doesn't have the VB logo on it. the neon-ish yellow reminds me of my fav soccer kit, BVB Dortmund circa '97.

i am looking forward to be able to watch the Aussie-NZ twenty20 match feb17 live.... in australia.

Looking out my window right now, and it looks like the rain will be threatening all day. Should be able to get as much play as possible in today, though.

Reflecting back on Day 1, it wasn't so dull, it was just that it was taking forever for the fourth wicket to fall, and that tha Pakis were piling on the runs.

Was great fun working at the MCG, indeed... I'm sure they'll have me back soon. :)

Play has resumed at the MCG on Day 3 of the Boxing Day test, with the rain taking a bit of a break for now.

Live ticker here (http://www.cricket.com.au/portal/site/cricketaustralia/template.MAXIMIZE/menuitem.4a871880c089f6ed371ae9104420a2a0/?javax.portlet.tpst=cc55f0f1f810f0993d3afb1025d62dbc_ws_MX&javax.portlet.prp_cc55f0f1f810f0993d3afb1025d62dbc_matchId=77a70cbd-84c1-43c1-ae36-a7d3e7ea7824&javax.portlet.begCacheTok=token&javax.portlet.endCacheTok=token)

At this point, Australia are at 5/225, after 56.4 overs, and have to make only 116 runs to catch Pakistan's first-innings total of 341.

And the Martyn-Gilchrist partnership currently batting is producing a good number of runs, too.

End of Day 3 at the MCG, and Pakistan is setting another target, gaining a score of 5/85 on its second innings, and currently leading by 47 runs.

Damien Martyn was the Aussies' best batsman in its opening innings, scoring 142 runs. Justin Langer and Jason Gillespie also tallied half-centuries (with Gillespie not out), and Adam Gilchrist next best on 48 runs.

jeez, sure seems like the Pak choked again. some points-

-Pak's second innings 5-85, after getting 341 in the first.

-was it a bit risky for AUS to rest only after tea, having a 79 run lead? regardless, it payed off.

-"At one stage paceman Shoaib Akhtar became so frustrated he kicked away a ball that had been hit back to him at a gentle pace by Gillespie, allowing the Australian fast bowler to sneak a quick single much to the delight of the MCG crowd."

-3 Pak wickets were lost before they even took the lead back. overall, seems like day 3 would have been an exciting one to attend.

Early stages yet at Day 4, and Shane Warne has taken yet another wicket.

Pakistan's built only a 65-run lead on 7/103 in its second innings.

Should be easy pickings for Australia to win the match when they come to bat.

Australia's second innings have begun, and already, Justin Langer could only make five runs before being caught out.

Still, 126 is a very do-able target to reach to win the MCG test.

1 for 15 after just 2 overs suggests we're trying to knock off the small target as quickly as possible. Langer going out is a blow, but there's plenty of batting left to come, so no nerves just yet. :D
