The Daily Mirror fabricates story. EXCLUSIVE!

With the transfer window rapidly approaching, one newspaper has dramatically shot itself in the foot. The Daily Mirror, one of Britain's top selling daily newspapers, ran a story linking Tottenham Hotspur's England International defender Ledley King with a move to their arch rivals Arsenal.

However it turns out that not only are Arsenal not in the hunt for a new defender but they do not have the sort of financial muscle to consider such a bid.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger said: "I like Ledley King but I have four centre backs and I am not at all in the market to spend £20 million as was said in the newspaper,"

"I rate King highly as a player but we are not in the market to buy Ledley King."

It would appear the Daily Mirror story was fabricated from beginning to end and was merely a ploy to fill space on a slow news day and try to cause a stir in the football world.

Following Wenger's flat out denial, it would appear that the proposed linking of Ashley Cole with Real Madrid did not get any publicity at all - except David Dein's "scoffing" of the story. Did this happen with the King story? Oh no, of course not.

With many more stories of this ilk expected in the coming weeks, we as readers must learn how to recognise garbage and not be tempted by it's charms.

They didn't have a new stadium being built last year, they were waiting for planning permission.

The quote is regarding a defender. He didn't pay £20m for Reyes, he paid £7m. Then another £7m this season. Then another £7m next season.

Face it, the only team that can afford to splash that kind of cash on a defender is Chelsea and they have said many times they will not be buying anyone in January.

The Mirror made this story up, simple as. Really think Spurs would sell their best defender to Arsenal after telling Chelsea where to go?

What part of Canada are you coming to?
