I concur. A lot of big named teams came in second. Should make for some great matches in the next round.

This is just as same as last year. Then suddenly Arsenal, Real Madrid and AC Milan lost in the 1/4 finals, and ppl told it was no longer interesting.

This year it's already starting to happen in the 1/8 finals, and probably in the semi finals we'll have 2 names like Chelsea, Milan, Juventus, Madrid, Man Utd, and 2 other like Porto, Monaco, Lyon, Bayers/bremen.

I have to say that if all the second round ties live up to their billing, then Champions League version 2004/05 will definitely go down in the history books. Still, I feel that come the quarterfinals, some of the remaining contestants might be representing European football's second-tier, much like what transpired last season. Not exactly music to the ears of sponsors...

More real contenders this year than in prebious years..... Chelsea, Barcelona, AC Milan and Juventus are hot, but you cannot count out Bayern Munich, Arsenal, Real Madrid or even MU. And after last year, it is everybody's game.

The round of 16 is gonna be dynamite. But the quarterfinals could be a let down if we have some mismatches: Milan/PSV, Chelsea/ Lyon, Juve/Porto, Bayern/Liverpool.

How are those let downs? I don't care about the team popularity or players, if you lose, you deserve to be kicked out of the CL. Those would be great match ups.

Hey I'm not denigrating those clubs whom I mentioned. In fact, those are the clubs whom I feel will be in the quarterfinals. But to a nuetral perspective(not necessarily mine) a Barca/Chelsea matchup is more eye catching than a Chelsea/Lyon matchup. You cannot deny this.

No, it's not.
It's already served up the usual boring games, the usual meaningless end of group stage matches with half-strength first teams on the pitch, poor crowds in the stadiums and an influx of rejects into the UEFA Cup.

Nothing different than any other year.

After the second round matches are over, people will be moaning that a seeding system should have been instigated in the second round draw, as the matches were more appealing.Same ol' stuff.

The usual 'play to not lose' policy will dominate the tactics of the semi-finals, thus ensuring even more boring football and the final itself will probably be as anti-climatic as ever.

Same as usual in fact.

ON PAPER
2002/2003 Quarterinals was:-

Juventus-Barcelona
A.C.Milan-Ajax
Inter Milan-Valencia
Man Utd-Real Madrid

Now if those weren't titanic matches in quarters with Europe's biggest teams on paper. hmm hard to argue!

This year's quarters will be missing some giants but 2002/2003's 8 quarterfinalists were absolue GIANTS of European football.

Maybe it was boring but the point is this year's could be too. but on paper the matchups were superb!

YOUR Arsenal didn't play so why should it have been enjoyable for you, one John Carew sent them packing!

How was it boring?? ManUtd - Real Madrid saga was amazing, esp. about Beckham not playing and then coming in trying to save the club.

The AC Milan last minute gasp to go through Ajax was also heart breaking for so many, and it had everybody on their toes.

Those were two very good semi-finals with many goals. The other matches were quite good too.

Sorry to rain on people's parade but

Barcelona vs Chelsea: Mourinho is no stranger to negative tactics. He will probably "park the bus infront of the goal" so Barcelona can't score. Expect Chelsea to go for the draw.

Man U vs AC Milan: The team of AC Milan is no stranger to playing negative on the road and was criticized for it last season in the CL.

Real Madrid vs Juventus: Juventus is the team known for 1-0 wins, don't expect an entertaining showdown.

Great matchups on paper, but don't expect teams with coaches with a history of negative tactics on the road to change their style.

Are you a visionary? Can you give me the results, so i would win much money. Didn't you see the match Barca - Milan (2:1) It was a great game, and Milan is the most offensive team of Italy!
And i am pretty sure Real score a goal against Juve. I'm glad to see Barca-Chelsea and Bayern-Arsenal too. This fore sure will be great games. When you don't like it, so watch Golf.
