I see that Ortega wants to play in the 2006 World Cup. Does anyone think this is a) possible, and/or b) good for Argentina?

My personal belief is that Pekerman will have no need for his attitude and diminishing skills. Clearly, Pekerman needs to find some additional help up front...but I don't think Ortega is the answer. Also, there is plenty of skill in the midfield, so he certainly wouldn't be needed to supply the forwards.

With Riqulme, Aimar, Romangoli, D'Alessandro, and a few others. Ortega must do VERY INCREDABLE THINGS AT NEWELL'S to get called up..

Ortega never delivered when it came to the difficult games and only shined when playing against easy opponents (Jamaica 98)

in my opinion he was overated

Ortega have no chance to play for Argentina ....
The real manager of Argentina has a name: "Julio Humberto Grondona"
Pekerman is his employee ... he has not knowlege/experience as a first division coach, so it is so clear ....

As Ortega has a low market price ... he has no chance to play for Argentina ...

Bussines are Bussines !!!!!

Perhaps there is some truth to that, but it is also true that Ortega is no longer the best Argentine player at his position. He already played three world cups, and now it is the time for the younger players to give it a shot.

Have you guys heard of a guy on the sub 20 team named Ferreya or something like that? Is this guys really good in your eyes? I saw him and Tevez play against Chile in a world cup qualifier in Santiago they play real good together!!!

Ortega back in our NT? Nah. Like previously stated in this thread, it's time for Burrito to hang up his International Boots up and let other promising youngsters take his place wether he likes it or not.....

Ortega's already played in 3 WC:s. It's time for him to step down now and make room for some younger players.

i don`t think ortega was overated, technically he was one of the world`s brilliant attacking midfield players. if you watched his display with parma in 1999-2000 and valencia, every one knows that ortega is one of those naturally gifted extraordinally talents around. i was one of those people who rejoiced and i will rejoice even more should he be selected for the pumas of argentina. D'Alessandro has been in great form this season with Wolfsburg helping them to keep pace with the likes of bayern and stuttgart , riquelme can be mesmerizing on his day and their is che`s wizard aimar.

still i believe that ortega`s drive will be needed in german 06, of course he has to work harder to reach his best once again but after a long lay off lets give him a break, because trust me, a fully fit ortega will cause havoc in many opposing defences... plus he just helped newell`s to the championship
i wish him the best in his road towards making the pumas team again.. big fan

I don't know if Ortega has a real shot in 2006 but he may very well make the trip as a sub or an alternate(if that exists). I'll tell you this much, I watched a few Newells games this past season and I'm still in shock over how well he plays. After not only being as old as he is but after being away from the game for almost 2 years and then coming back as phenomenal as he has is absolutely mind boggling to me.

I still have some hope on Ortega although the possibility of playing in 2006 is low. And as for Lopez, he is still good.

Yes, Osmar "Malevo" Ferreyra. I agree, he's a great player. Too bad he isn't taken into account by the coach. One of the main reasons may be that he's currently playing in Russia...
