my picks, considering the options...

__________________buffon

gallas_____carvalho____ayala____zambrotta

giuly_____________gerrard__________nedved
_________________ronaldinho

_________________________zlatan
_______________shevy

cech still slightly short of buffon, imo

not very good options at RB, gallas probably the best of the lot...
carvalho and ayala although theres fierce competition here
zambrotta cole and lahm all arguably deserve LB

giuly was the top and most consistent for me, although CR and figo deserve mention...
no doubt its gerrard in the center although baraja and maniche unlucky to miss out
ronnie in attacking midfield but good to see micoud get in as nominee
nedved still the best on the left, although robben, vicente snapping at his heels

again lotsa competition here, but i give it to shevy and zlatan because i feel theyd complement each other perfectly... zlatan has been nothing short of sensational for me... henry and adriano get special mention...

coach... probably the toughest of the lot -
schaaf, benitez, wenger, rehagel, mourinho...

for me, although jose edges this one, atlhough its a very very tough pick - all the others have done excellently this year...

Baía
Carvalho
Maniche
Deco
Morientes

All have to be in the team. Best goalkeeper, defender, midfielder, forward and best player of the competition - deco.

Put 6 more around these.

its not restricted to the champions league...

only restriction is that the player is under UEFA (playing in europe) so no tevez, landon donovan, etc...

Here is what I came up with:

------------------Cech
Cafu----Nesta-----------Carvalho----Zambrotta
Giuly---------Maniche------------Robben
-------------------Ronaldinho
--------Sheva------------Adriano

I was surpirsed Dida wasn't nominated. He had a much better year than Buffon did.

John Terry just missed out to Carvalho and Nesta. But he is odds on favorite to replace Carvalho in next years team.

Vicente and Rothen were both brillient last year but Robben's start to this year just edges them.

Leaving Henry out of this team is tough. But picking Sheva and Adriano is easy.

--------------------Casillas------------------------

Cafu--------Nesta-----------Ayala-------------Cole

---------------------Vieira-------------------------

Figo----------------------------------------Vicente

----------------------Kaka------------------------

-----------Schevchenko-----Henry----------------

This is weighted heavily to what players did last season.

Casillas is the most important player on Real Madrid, tough to think about how bad last season could have been without him, possibly no European Competion this year without his play last year.

Cafu, Nesta, Ayala, Cole were all solid last year for championship teams. Ayala and Nesta are the hearts of their respective defenses, and Cafu and Cole are doing what Roberto Carlos used to do, play good defense and add that extra man coming forward on the attack.

The season Arsenal had plays into his selection. Extremely solid as a ball winner and great at getting that quick attack started.

Figo has been so good for so long that he starts getting overlooked. So great on the ball, can break down even the most organized defenses.

Vicente carried the Valencia attack last season without Aimar there most of the season. Their form without him this year shows how important a player he is.

Tough to go against Ronaldinho in this spot but Kaka was spectacular more importantly extremely consistent.

Schevchenko and Henry win hands down for me in this category. They not only had amazing seasons, but they are the two best strikers in the world still.

Very difficult to pick though, almost all nominees are very worthy.

why do you so many of you think viera deserves to be there based on this years performances??

ive never been a fan or even an admirer of his, and he was okay at the beg of this year (2nd half of last season), almost went unnoticed at euro2004 (never performed at international level again) and many would argue, has been a LIABILITY for arsenal in this new season (gunners have DEFINITELY played better without him)

gerrard on the other hand - absolutely stellar although he had a mediocre euro2004 himself...

BTW - many of you have failed to state who you voted for as coach?
i thought that was a pretty tough call and some very very deserving nominees

Anybody that doesn't pick Mourinho is clueless.Well Otto did all he could for Greece and he did that on the second biggest stage of football.International football is bigger than club football so in my opinion the country gets preference over the club.
