So, who do we want? Who can we get? Who will we get? Why?
Need central defenders. Dawson from Nottingham Forest? Henchoz from Liverpool?
Wingers? Massimo Bonanni of Vicenza?
Strikers? Danny Webber of Watford? Darren Bent of Ipswich Town? Other target men available?
Discuss.

Peter Varney claims that the Alan has about £3 million to spend. I don't know what kind of talent we can bring in for that especially since it won't be all spent on one player.
I'm at a total loss at what we might do. I just hope it isn't yet another midfielder.

I know Curbs has said he isn't necessarily spending any of his money in January, but I think he should go get two players.
Striker -- Dean Ashton of Crewe -- a goal scorer and possibly the target man we need right now at 6 foot 1 inches.
Central Defender -- Stephane Henchoz of Liverpool -- another tall, experienced central defender -- helps keep HH on the outside if there are any other injuries and provides Curbs flexibility in using El K as central defender, outside defender, or defensive midfielder [sub for Kishishev or Holland if needed].
And don't let anyone go. We still need the Euells and Hughes and Stuarts and Fishes -- you never know when someone might go down. And you never know, we might have to play more games in either the FA Cup this year or the UEFA Cup next year.
Hope springs eternal. Go Addicks!

Is CAFC going to improve their side or gut quality players?
Hartley,
Why don't you post in the Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland forum? I would love to see more variety in there, instead of just Celtic and Rangers supporters.

Catfish,
I don't understand your first question. What quality players would they get rid of? Curbs is trying to add to the squad, but that means some players aren't playing like they have before -- i.e. Euell, Stuart, Lisbie -- while others just haven't really gotten into the squad and are itching to get out there -- i.e. Hughes, Jeffers.
As far as posting on the Scotland board, well, I don't get to "see" or even "hear" my Hearts play too much. I try to keep track, but without even listening to them play, I really can't say how they are doing. I hate that Levein went to the Leicester City, but it is a step up for a good young manager. And I really wanted Hearts to be the only Scottish team still in UEFA Cup play. They had their chances, but couldn't finish.
It would help the SPL greatly if they weren't depending on supporter's clubs and such for their support. They need to open it up a bit and let networks like FSW show some matches to build up the popularity of the league. Many fans that like the EPL may find they like the SPL also. A while back when FSW could show SPL games, I enjoyed them very much. And I would rather watch SPL than La Liga, Serie A, Ligue 1, or even the Bundesliga. Although, the Bundesliga is moving up my list because of American players in that league.

Rumors are that Pennant of Arsenal will go from Highbury. Would we want him? Could we afford him?
I know, I know, we don't need another midfielder. But he plays well on the wing and if Rommedahl doesn't continue to improve, Pennant would be the man to be out there on the right. Can't you just see it -- Thomas out on the left and Pennant on the right with Jeffers up top. Arsenal has a lot, but we could show them what they have been missing with their English players.
Thoughts?

Striker: Dean Ashton of Crewe -- the tall striker we need
Midfielder: Paul Harltey of Hearts in SPL -- 29 but very versatile -- only 5' 8" but he can play wide or central midfield or even striker -- makes things happen -- hard worker with lots of "heart"
Central Defender: Stephane Henchoz of Liverpool -- more experience and height
C'mon Curbs, get it done.

Well, looks like we missed out on Dean Ashton. And Norwich only giving 2 for him. What is Curbs doing? Wasting time again? We need a big striker and we cannot afford to sit on our hands and let the window close.
C'mon you Addicks.

you guys think there's any shot at a loan of Valencia's Bernardo Corradi?...he's one of my all-time favorite players, if you need a tough target man type...he's it.

I would guess there's a shot for a 6 month loan seeing as he's had sporadic playing time at Valencia...

Would we want Henrik Pedersen of Bolton if we could afford him? He's 6'1" seems to score often enough. Not known for assists though.
Seems I saw rumors that we might be interested in Kevin Davies. He's 6'0" and is well known to be good at holding the ball, taking on the defenders, and striking from the air.
I wonder how expensive either would be?

Okay, sell Euell to the Saints for whatever and use that to get Pedersen. Yeah, Pedersen may be just another solid squad player, but he will bring more attacking options up front.
For whatever reason, Jason will not be a striker again under Curbs. He's stuck being a midfielder now when we could use him more up front.
So, get:
-- Pedersen AND
-- Luvindula;
-- Henchoz or
-- Dawson
Spend a little extra this time. We can make it back by finishing higher in the table and going to at least the UEFA Cup next season.

I'm beginning to think that we won't bring anyone in. Everyone we seem to be connected with are going to other clubs.
What is more of concern is the rumors that Euell will be headed to Southampton. I don't know how considering that maybe only Bartlett is capable of playing in the lone striker role. I don't Jeffers can do it and JJ is player who needs a partner.
As for the other players that Hartley mentioned:
Henchoz is wanted by both Rangers and Celtic so we certainly can match the money or a guaranteed European spot.
Luvindula is wanted by another big club that I can remember at the moment and supposedly Charlton only want him on a loan.
Forest are demanding £6m for Dawson. We don't have that and with Gary Megson now incharge there I'd say it would take £6m to get him.
Pederson? Well, he plays in the same formation as we play. The problem he's playing in the attacking midfield winger role and not as the lone striker. He's more of a JJ type of player.
Do I have anyone in mind? No, there just isn't anything out there that is cheap and would fill that lone striker role. And I don't think we need anymore defenders. We've got enough rotatable players that can fill in at the back. We really don't need anyone midfielders. Too many are sitting on the bench and not getting playing time. All in all, we need a solid "postup-like" striker.

Well, if anything happens in the last 10 days, I will be very surprised.
Euell to Southampton? Unlikely.
Fish to Fulham? I doubt it.
Nobody is leaving. But nobody is coming in either. Boring, but again, very quiet. The new boys will have to take charge. Go Murphy. Go Jeffers.
Go Addicks!
