OK. I know only the staunchest Evertonian expects us to finish at the top of the table. But still the latest odds from William Hill are a bit annoying:

Team...............Odds to win EPL

Chelsea.....................1/2
Arsenal....................15/8
Man Utd....................8/1
Everton....................66/1
Liverpool.................250/1

Chelsea & Arsenal I can see.

But ManUre? We're 5 pts ahead of them in the table, and yet they're considered 8 times more likely to win the Premiership!

Sheesh, Mel, can't I even support my team with a little joke?? I realize that bookies, in general, don't like to lose and set the odds accordingly. BUT, Man Utd? Seriously? I haven't even thought of them as competition all season. That's just me, though. An Evertonian. Not a bookie.

I don't give a damn about Man U. Chelsea is our competition right now. They're the only one above us.

I don't blame you for your frustration. Everton hasn't reached these heights for years.

But think of it from the bookies point of view. It's a thin squad. It's a team that some pundits had picked for relegation, or at least a relegation battle, this year. And other teams have achieved this level or higher before boxing day only to fade away. Villa did so just a couple years back.

That said, 66 to 1? You would think the bookies would have more incentive to go lower. The better the odds of Everton winning, the less money they dole out if Everton really does win.

as much as i love the blues, i think the bookies are right to keep us at decently long odds. i still wouldn't take them at 66-1. even just ONE injury and we'd struggle. we've been very lucky at that front thus far.

serious point: can we ban Mel B from our forums? he's annoying and contributes nothing to the discussion here. FACTOMONDO!! :D :D :D. ok sunshine?

We've given us more of a chance of winning the League than the RS at 250/1 ha ha.

After Tuesday's performance all the RS fans were coming out practically crying and proper angry too!!! I had the last laugh too as I bet a £1 that Lua Lua (so good they named him twice  ) would score the last goal which he did in the 92nd minute I mighht add ha ha :D

I only won a tenner and split that with my mate as we always split our bets and winnings.

Also thank god that game in hand of theirs is out of the way too and only a point gained from it!!! ha ha

i truly think the toffees are legit title contenders as long as THEY think they are - the book number is perhaps slightly fatalistic, but then again my RAMS won the super bowl a few years back starting at 250-1 - numbers are just numbers

Done! Shall we throw a party?

I'll make some hot sauce and bring the chips.....

The bookies post the numbers so people will place bets. Having Everton with that kind of pay out will get more play. The form of Chelsea also comes into this. They just don't look like they are going to falter at all. If Everton scored goals a little more regularly, that number would probably be around 20-1.

I doesn't make me mad, let's just see if they can prove them wrong. Heck, if you have a hundred bucks to spare, throw it down on the team. That would be a nice piece of change if things come through. If we don't win, then your only out a hundred bucks. If gambling is your thing of course.

peace

Good points.

I would put Everton's chance to win the EPL at about 30-1, so 66-1 odds looks pretty good to me.

In the 2nd half of the season, the Toffees are away at Arsenal but host Chelsea and ManUtd.

If we're able to beat the teams we should beat and Chelsea and Arsenal are upset a time or two, we actually have a shot (though remote) of winning the EPL.
