I'm surprised that he really wants to stay with GRFC, instead of RMCF or NUFC. Good news for Gers supporters that a solid defender wants to stay.

Real Madrid are obviously a bigger club than Rangers but Newcastle are not.
So his decision to stay with the Gers unless Real made an offer comes as no surprise to me.
Going to Real would be a step up, however, going to Newcastle would be a step down for Boum Boum IMO.

I think he'll see out at least 3 years of his contract

Newcastle have bid for him. Souness went public with the bid as well! Very bad timing considering tonights game.

The bid was believed to be around £7.5m (which was rejected) and the Rangers board are raging with Souness about it which is understandable considering that we should be totaly focused on tonights big game and not about players leaving the club.

I believe he was signed on a five-year deal, and obviously the idea was to punt him on at some stage, but now would not be the favoured time.
Souness is getting on my nerves with his antics at the moment. He always seems to speak fondly of the Bears when he's on TV, but he could have let this lie until after tonight's game if he had any respect for the club. We need Boumer to be focused on the match, not on where he's going to be plying his trade in six months time.
He would be mad to go to Newcastle anyway -- loads of players have left Rangers for lesser clubs and have regretted it. It would be no different in this instance, IMHO.

The 'Gers picked Boumsong up on a free. Considering the state of the club's finances they'd be foolish to turn down a >7M payday. But we'll see. I say he's gone by Christmas.

.
Oh yes they are. By what criteria are Newcastle a smaller club than Rangers?

Come on! I know you are a Celtic supporter, BUT GET REAL! Rangers not only have more supporters in the UK, but worldwide. They also have WAY MORE trophies.

And.......? Do these "suporters" contribute much more to the club than Newcastle'? And their attendences look pretty similar to me.
They also have WAY MORE trophies.
Yes, in a much weakened field. Rangers would have not won these trophies if they were in England. The very fact that Newcastle are in the EPL, makes them a bigger club IMO.

Rangers fans get frustrated about Souness going for Rangers players, do they realise that he'd be putting plenty money into the club? I thought the Ferguson - Amoruso sales gave us a financial boost last year and wouldnt us Rangers fans hate it if he was plunging that kinda money into Celtic?? I'm one of many people who hate to see our star players leave the club but if a great offer comes in that will help our finances then i would give it the go ahead, if we sold Boumsong & add that onto the Ferguson sale, we've already made almost £15m profit from Souness as we never paid anything to bring either player to the club

Your team has more supporters worldwide? get real. celtic are a bigger club,
worldwide, the people you have in the UK? are no doubt the english
hooligan's that give your club a great reputation. Trophy's? Get back to me
when you have been crowned Champions of Europe..........on second thought
don't i have not got that long to wait. If you are talking Scottish trophies,
your club was founded long before Celtic thus making the difference. This season Celtic were again playing against the big clubs of European football,
Barcelona and Milan. You were you lot playing? The pubs teams of European football. You can't match us mate, we will be back in the CL next season while you lot will be knocked out of the UEFA cup by some team from the
Faroes.

It's great for a club when a important player wants to stay almost no matter what. Such love for a club is rare in this day of age. Here in Norway almost every player wants to go abroad to make more money. "Go pro" as it's called.

Mince CW1980.
Souness has done his bit for Rangers even in absentia, buying dross to help clear the debt (Amo for instance). He made clear that Rangers made the bids public, not him.
How are Newcastle a 'lesser club'? Fan base? Stadium? Squad? Or is this just an 'historical' point? Granted Ferguson might now regret his move - but for Boumsong the whole deal was always about moving south.
