Sheva wins which is fine with me. But DECO comes in SECOND above TH14(fourth) AND Ronnie(third)? Wow. Im completely stunned. Theo Zagorakis came in 5th.

By this measure, what did Shevchenko do that Henry didn't?

They're all great players. Finishing behind a player who led his side to a CL win and a domestic title isn't that bad, you know. Henry's poor form at the Euros cost him; simple as.

Every one seems to jump all over the fact that Henry had a poor Euro campaign with France, but no one seems to realize that Shevchenko and the Ukraine team didn't win either AND Deco and the Portugal didn't win anything. At least Ronaldinho and Brazil won a severly sub-Euro Copa-America Cup. But he actually won an international cup. All Shevchenko did was lead AC Milan to a Serie A championship, Thats IT. Henry led Arsenal to an Undefeated Season. It seems like the voters need to get their priorities right when choosing a POTY, but how much respect do they get after voting Ronaldo champ last year? That just goes to show that this voting group has very little clue what is actually going on in world football.

Shevchenko and Ukraine didnt just not win they didnt make it...but thats not one persons fault.

Ronaldinho did not play in the Copa-America...Brazil played an understrength squad

Thats it? lead a team to the Serie A, nothing impressive
he also helped lead the team to the Champions League the season before

The Year Before! Nothing matters from the year before! Come on now, I'm trying to make the case FOR Henry.

I think nicephoras said it best - Henry's euro 2004 performances cost him.

it does matter. i am all for henry winning, however, the voters had a hard time distinguishing last year from this year. sometimes these things are career achivement awards. i think it was just a strong field. if arsenal will win the champions league then henry will be at the top of the list soon.

Henry missed out becos he lacked "sportmanship" He took the freekick when Cech was lining the wall. It's perfectly legitimate but in the spirit of game it isnt a fair play.

Remember DiCanio kicked the ball out when the goalkeeper was injured when he had an open goal in front of him?

While I might agree with the premise, these awards aren't given out based on "sportsmanship". I don't recall anyone thinking Beckenbauer or Crujff were angels. Nor would anyone have denied Maradona this type of an award due to his infamous handball.

Hey, its captain obvious to the rescue.
The question is WHY he didn't get enough votes.

Come on! Did you see the props the blues were giving Henry, and Henry them, after the whistle blew? Those guys played the game of their lives that day, and i think their respect for each other grew immensely. In this day and age, especially #1 against #2, we all know it's Win At All Costs. You can't possibly expect them to politely wait for Chelsea to line up their wall and all that.

As long as Henry is not playing in La Liga or Serie A, and since he wasn't allowed to shine at the Mighty Juventus, I think he'll have to walk on water to get the international recognition he deserves.
