Bloody hell. On current form he's easily the most obvious choice to partner Henry, all he does is impress with the limited chances he gets. He combines with Henry better than anyone else and his directness causes defences problems that Dennis Bergkamp simply doesn't anymore. It's blindingly obvious to me.

What do you think?

P.S. What's wrong with Reyes at the moment? Methink's he doesn't like the cold. :(

I think it's time. I've heard people say Arsene likes to give them 6 months, well it's getting close to that. I think he's looked dangerous enough pretty much every time out that it's time to give him a run out.

I knew you were brilliant, it must be the ray parlour in your username. I have been thinking the same thing. What in the world is AW waiting for? Start Van Persie over Reyes!!! Maybe the bench will wake JAR up and ignite his game. Maybe his Spanish blood hasn't gotten used to the English chill?

Start the chant now.

Van Persie.....you are the man.
Surely, your skills are in demand.
Raise a pint and grin as such,

Van Persie over useless Bergkamp.

more importantly, it seems that henry enjoys playing alongside him. he could be the target man we don't own and can head down to henry, or recieve crosses and through balls by the king of highbury himself.

Van Persie over useless Bergkamp.

Oh come on now... that's harsh.

Bergkamp has given nothing less than 100%, he's 35 now so it's understandable he's not going to keep up with everyone else. I thought the game was too fast for him, I hope he retires at the end of the season because I don't think he could handle another year.

BTW - anytime you have any doubt over Bergkamp just think back to 94-98.

Im not trying to take away from what he has done for us, but I dont think he deserves a starting place right now. I dont even think he should fit into our plans. I'd be much happier seing Bergkamp coming in for Van Persie off the bench.

Let's hope that is not the problem with Reyes. We could very well have to contend with having to play in icy Germany in the next round of the CL.

against lesser teams Bergkamp can hold onto the ball and reap havoc

He needs a rest. He has been awful of late, even against Rosenborg after his goal he was running up blind alleys and giving up possession of the ball for most of the match.

But all will be forgotten the next time Dennis demonstrates his brilliance in a big match...?

Bergkamp is aging. He's a legend but van Persie gives us more at the moment and has a greater upside. His has game seems to mesh well with Henry. And he has something uncontainable about him. He managed to cause Chelsea a few problems in the brief spell that he was on today as well.

Reyes hasn't looked that good in partnership with Henry, he's looked the business with Bergkamp but his performances of late don't merit a run in the team with Tel. Whereas van Persie looks ready to do something big.

Berkamp is one of the greats, but at his age, i feel he is starting too many games for us. He doesn't like being left out, but Van Persie deserves his chance as a starter. This will only benefit Bergkamp as he will be fresher when he does play, he looked great at the beginning of the season but has started to fade.

Let's face it Dennis was covered well by Chelsea players today. They neutralized his game.

In games prior, Dennis played quite well. He has been delivering great balls forward through and throughout. However, it is the supporting cast that has not been able to sufficiently complement his play. Recall that it was Bergkamp (with pin point accuracy) that found Cygan's ugly mug in the tie against West Brom.

It looks like Henry is healing well. Also Freddie is looking sharp again. I think that it will only be a short stint of time until Bergkamp "wows" us again.

But I do agree with the majority here that Van Persie should be given more game time. The key is knowing how and when?
