Hi fellow fans..
Its starting to look more and more like the DirecTV/Dish Network merger is not going to happen. Word is that the DOJ will recommend against the merger, and possibly the FCC.
I've got Dish Network now and love the Fox Sportsworld soccer coverage (along with Canadian Football and Aussie Rules Football). The one thing I don't have here in Baltimore is my local stations, which DirecTV does carry. I stuck with Dish because since eventually I'd get the locals through merger.
Does DirecTV carry Fox Sports World? If so I'll probalby make the switch over to them if the merger is not completed.
Thanks!

You can also check by area code to make sure they offer local channels in your area.
And FSW is available via the Sports Pack.

DirectTV is still confident it will go through. But that could just be talk.
If it doesn't Murdoch (who has spent a lot of time and money lobbying against the merger) is looking to buy DirectTV, so you can bet it will eventually carry it if it doesn't already.

DirecTV does have FSW.
I believe it is available in the following options:
1) Sports Package ~ $12/mo
Includes regional Fox sports channels. However, often major college football games and other sports are blacked out.
Requires base package.
2) Total Choice Premiere $82 ($86 with local)

What's wierd is that last year Dish had it all over DirecTV in terms of the Shootout; This year it's the other way around.
I almost switched to Dish but held off and am certainly happy I did but who can say what the deal will be next year.
One note to consider though: When Echostar won the bidding for DirecTV, the party they beat out was Rupert Murdoch, owner of Fox and, IIRC, Sky.
Now that it appears that the Justice Dept will oppose the merger, it puts Murdoch right back in the picture, as he is reportedly still interested in the US Sat market.
Murdoch owns so much soccer programming that he could beam to us for next to nothing (I'd give anything to get the Saturday morning football show) that it just has to be good for all of us.

also Direct TV has had a couple of friendlies
on PPV that have not been on Dish... that is
concerning me...
Dish used to be the system of choice for footy
fans.. lets hope this doesnt continue..

This I know and I'm suffering for it, because I switch specifically for that reason, and I told Direct TV that was the Reason I switched.
Now I'm unhappy with DishNetwork slight on MLS Shootout, and I've told them that I would switch when my package ran out in August, unless their coverage improved.
I'm not unhappy with either provider, except with the soccer, and I told them it was the only thing that mattered to me.
