from a comfort point of view (based on how i rate the teams), id like to play arsenal... (cos i dont rate them much :-))

from an excitement point of view, id like to play chelsea - that would be a firecracker of a match...

team id most like to avoid - lyon - yes lyon - we never do well against french teams, and lyon in particular have been a problem to deal with

after lyon, i dont want the italians...

i like our chances against english teams

my preference in order

arsenal
monaco

wouldnt mind

chelsea
inter

avoid

ac
lyon

cant draw

bayer
juve

I feel that Bayern has the best chance of defeating Arsenal out of all the remaining teams. The weakness of their back four (especially against dead ball situations) would let in a couple of goals from Bayern's front men.

It looks like Ballack has finally found his form again and will be a real danger-man in the next round no matter who we face.

I would love to see us play Arsenal. I think the last time we met we had a draw in highbury 2-2 and a win at home, and we dont want to face AC, Lyon, or chelsea!

I don't like French teams, and we don't play good against them but I would love to see Bayern eliminate Lyon. We have a score to settle with them from last year don't we? ;)

Exactly what I stated on the other post. Well done!

If we don't play Lyon, then Inter or Arsenal.

I am hoping for 1 of the French teams, but if this is not possible then i would say Arsenal.

Bayern this year are not the same as a couple of years ago when we played defensively and passively. Now with this style, there's no reason we fear any France teams, will beat them all. So my vote goes for either france teams.

I would say Inter being my first choice followed by Arsenal.

EDIT: Haha just looked at the results and I believe it is safe to assume none of us would like to meet AC Milan.

That is the ONE thing you can definitely pull out of this poll... we do NOT want AC Milan this early.

those games vs ac milan a couple of years ago were absolutely thrilling fare...

we matched the blow for blow, but they managed to pip us at the post both times... they were absolutely great games froma neutrals point of view

same with juventus this year - id like to think we were infact the better team for the most part...

yet they managed 6 points vs us...

for this reason, id like to avoid milan (as they are playing a withdrawn defensive style this season similar to juve), but dont mind inter who are erratic although brilliant, imho...

well AC Milan has started to come on strong in the last few weeks, but they have not been say like a Barcelona. Interesting editorial on Shevechenko from Soccernet recently.
http://soccernet.espn.go.com/feature?id=317263&cc=5901

touches a bit on Milan's season so far. Not that this team is a one-trick pony, but players like Kaka (I still can't say that without laughing) have not been as effective as last year. I think we could take em' --------just not right now ;)

That's true, personally I don't want to face them anytime. ;)
My favourite opponent would have been Real Madrid, but that's not possible so I would choose AS Monaco.

Why Id like to draw the best -

as so many people have pointed out - to be the best, you have to beat the best - sooner or later...

so i say - lets take on the best right from the start...
if you do well against them, fvkking ell - what a boost that would be for you (in terms of the season)

if youre out - tough luck, you probably werent going to win the whole thing anyway (or didnt deserve to)
this way, you get out early with your head held high (unless you were embarassed by them, but as a bayern fan, im not scared of anybody and dont think well get embarassed by anybody at all)

if youre out - it gives you a chance to concentrate on the domestic season/league (although it puts more pressure on you cos thats the only big trophy remaining), which has gotten more competitive and harder to win in recent times...

why dont i want to draw italian clubs then?
cos a defeat against them always leaves a bitter taste in the mouth...
inevitably, (in the event of a defeat), the pattern the game follows is-
territorial domination, much better offensive and midfield work - pressing the italians against the wall for the most part, only to be foiled by a rearguard action...

leaves you thinking - fvkk these teams - they didnt deserve it (even though they probably did - for taking their chance, while you didnt take your chances - note the singular and plural usage of the word 'chance')

i dont mind inter cos they actually look to go forward...
they actually look to attack... milan did as well sometimes, but this season theyve been playing a system similar to that of juves - the philosophy of simply capitalising on your opponents mistakes...

for this reason (and nothing else, id like to avoid milan this year - we skip juve anyway)
two years ago when they knocked us out, it was fun to watch - those two games were absolute treats for the neutrals - highly competitive games with brilliant approach work and defending, settled in one split second... left me with no bitter feeling then, just a feeling of 'what could have been' if we hadnt met them so early on...

if we lose to chelsea, in all likelihood, they would have deserved their victory and i will be the first to congratulate them...

but after our loss to juve, all i could think was - this is fvkking unfair - we batter them with over 20 shots, they manage 2, and they get a 89th minute winner in front of our fans...
fine i may be a whiner, but at the end of the day, id just like to avoid that feeling... :)

thats why i say - bring on chelsea - bring on the best on offer (from chelsea, inter, lyon, monaco, ac milan and arsenal)

if not chelsea, bring on the 'relative' easiest - arsenal or monaco (but we usually have problems with french teams)

The problem is that we have to play the 1st leg at home, a disadvantage for 2nd seed teams. So that's why we rather face a weaker team in this round and it doesn't matter much later on.

I second that... although I need "to spread some Reps" first

You bring up a great point about momentum and confidence in beating a "powerhouse" team. I also think the same is true if you beat a team that knocked you out in previous years (ie.. Lyon) so as to "cast the demon out" (again, bare with me... I am a RedSox fan and curses are for excuse-makers). Also is true for knocking out a defending finalist (ie.. Monaco).

So out of the choices, we have:

Chelsea and AC Milan -- top of there game, teams to beat
Monaco - finalist from last year
Lyon - eliminated Bayern last year
Inter, Arsenal - squads with definite flaws

I still say Lyon... get past the demon... then win four straight... just like Boston did. ;)

I hope it will be an English team. Please no Italians.

Sorry just a correction, Lyon have never eliminated Bayern. Last year Bayern were eliminated by Real Madrid, and before that these two met in the group stage in 2000 I believe.
