How did Spector play against Fenerbahce? I know he came in for Richardson and was wondering if he deserved the "5" rating skysports gave him.

Folks over at RedCafe are mostly giving him around a 7, with a few votes for MOTM. Really though, you can't read much into it considering the whole team played pretty poorly. I would have expected better from guys trying to break into the first team.

I was hoping he would get a start at LB with Fortune taking over Kleberson's spot in midfield. I am a fan of Spector's and was hoping for more time since he has done well in his appearances. I saw him handle Bayern reasonably well while doing a good job on Hartson during the preseason. I think that his earlier performances, most notably the Everton match, would have warranted more time that he has received. Maybe he get a full 90 against Exeter City.

The reason the kid gets the "5" rating is because he just wasn't on long enough to truly evaluate him... Don't read too much into it

Fergie hates young defenders. My guess is that's really the primary reason he hasn't played more. I'm with you, mostly, but I don't think the reason he's not playing much has much to do with him in particular.

I didn't see one or two things that he (or Pique) especially did to distinguish themselves for better or worse. He won the balls he was supposed to win, made the simple pass more often than not, with a couple insightful balls going forward to strikers and overlapped a few times without receiving a pass -- still overlaps that had to be made.
I'm not sure he really deserved anything more than a 5 or 6. He certainly wouldn't have deserved man of the match.

I think that Fergie's #1 rule of defense is: thou shalt make no mistakes.
It's logical, really. If an attacking player does 99 things wrong during a game, but has one moment of stunning individual brilliance...well, he might get out of the game with success. Reverse is true for defenders. Fergie'd rather play the guy that will play it safe, avoid errors, and play not to lose (it's not coincidence that, until very recently, Rio ventured forward much less for United than for Leeds), in defense...where as in attack, you get "Fergie's Fledglings."
Young defenders don't get blooded at United, if he can help it. And when they do, it's on the flanks.
