If this league ever gets started (regardless of its merits) what teams would you like to see in it?
As a background (not that you would need one!) here's an article that talks about the elite Euro clubs http://soccernet.espn.go.com/headlinenews?id=315247&cc=5901
With so many great teams to choose from, I would try to be as objective as possible, thus choosing the teams with the most history and tradition, who have been the most successful through the years.
First, I'd give an automatic berth to teams that have won the Champions League more than once, and who are still in the 1st division:
Ita: Milan, Inter, Juventus
Spa: Real Madrid,
Eng: Liverpool, Manchester United
Ger: Bayern Munich
Hol: Ajax
Por: Benfica, Porto
Second, I would include the teams that have won the most domestic league titles (and who are still in the 1st division) from the most attended leagues in Europe (Ger, Eng, Spa, Ita, Fra, Hol, Sco) plus Portugal since it already has two teams above.
Ita: Juventus, Milan, Inter
Spa: Real Madrid, Barcelona, Atletico Madrid
Eng: Liverpool, Manchester United, Arsenal
Ger: Bayern Munich, Schalke, Borussia Dortmund
Hol: Ajax, PSV
Por: Benfica, Porto
Fra: Marseille
Sco: Rangers
Coincidentally, the teams that have won the Champions League more than once, are also the teams with the most domestic titles in their respective leagues!
Please feel free to criticize/comment, add your own teams.

Juve, Milan and Inter all have more fans than Roma in Italy. And Napoli are not that far behind Roma in terms of fan support.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the Champions League a "European Super Leaue" only without that specific title? It seems so.
It's virtually the same thing, only a different name. First of all, you will have borderline "super" teams that will want to be in the league and complicate everything, who will decide if they deserve to be in it? Ohh, here's an idea... maybe they should play for a spot every season..? Wow, it sounds like the Champions League.
Just leave it the way it is right now. Its working fine.

Replace Atl Madrid with Valencia, Liverpool with Chelsea, and Rangers with Monaco. That's the ticket. I 'd pay serious money to see this

Why Monaco? Do you enjoy playing "spot the fan" when their home games are on TV?

I wanted to get rid of the scottish teams, and place a second french team instead. I think the french league is more competitive and deserves a second team. Which one would you recommend? at least Monaco made it to the champions league final last year! ...plus the have a cool uniform :o

You might have to throw Rangers and Celtic in there just for the pure domination of domestic league category

If they played in this European Super league that the topic starter is proposing then they wouldn't be any spot the fan games. They get good attendence for the Champions League games and against the popular French teams.

In that case Nürnberg should be one of the German teams :D.

Damn, you're absolutely correct! When did they come back to the 1st division!? Same goes for French side St. Etienne. Anyways, they might go back to the 2nd division at the end of this season and everything will be pretty again ;) but then again they might not. Their last title was in '68!

In light of newly found evidence, the teams (based on historical statistics) would be:
Ita: Juventus, Milan, Inter
Spa: Real Madrid, Barcelona, Atletico Madrid
Eng: Liverpool, Manchester United, Arsenal
Ger: Bayern Munich, Schalke, Nürnberg
Hol: Ajax, PSV
Por: Benfica, Porto
Fra: Marseille, St.Etienne
Sco: Rangers, Celtic
How about choosing teams based on popularity. By choosing the most popular teams in these 8 leagues we get:
Ita: Juventus, Milan, Inter
Spa: Real Madrid, Barcelona, Atletico Madrid?
Eng: Manchester United, Arsenal, Liverpool
Ger: Bayern Munich, Borussia Dormund, Schalke
Hol: Ajax, PSV
Por: Benfica?, Porto?
Fra: Marseille?, PSG?
Sco: Celtic, Rangers
Would anybody please correct/validate this?
If you added other teams to this list, what teams would you remove? What would be your ideal 18/20 teams?
