Worth starting now as there has been some good info on TopSpurs amidst the media speculation and we're less than a month away.
Apparently Christian Wilhelmsson the Anderlecht winger is the top priority, Jol is said to view him as being exactly what he wants. Skilfull wide player, should cost about 3 million or so now Anderlecht are out of the Champions League and Wilhelmsson is keen to move on.
We're still being linked to Jan Koller and that's claimed to be someone Jol wants. One of the reasons for Santini's discontent was said to be that Carrick was signed in place of Koller, but apparently Jol is also keen on him and this time it may happen. Dunno about this or what the fee would be like, but that's what has been said on Top Spurs.
Andy Reid is said to be definitely no longer a target for us.
We've been heavily linked to Dean Ashton of Crewe, current top scorer in the Championship, a talented 20 year old physical centre forward. Would cost between 2.5 to 3 million, some strong competition for him though from other clubs. We've also been linked lightly to Darren Bent, pacey young striker at Ipswich - a poor man's Defoe, highly unlikely to happen in January though unless we sell Jermaine.
Wayne Routledge still hasn't signed a contract with Palace, if we get to January and he still hasn't it's a strong possibility the club could get him. He was interested in the club's first bid and it's said he's held off on signing a contract because of this. Palace may cash in on him in January to the tune of about 3 million to raise transfer money for Dowie and so they don't lose him at the end of the season via a tribunal.
Emil Hallfredsson Icelandic young player of the year should be confirmed shortly. Was on trial at a few placed and opted for Spurs - in no small part due to Frank. He's a left sided winger/striker, 20 years old. Hopefully will be useful to have in the squad. Minimal compensation paid for him to his club.
These are the main ones I've heard of, other than that just random links.
In terms of selling, Robbie Keane may well be moved on. He's on a big wage and Jol is not meant to be a big fan. Should bring in about 6 to 7 million.
Kanoute should be staying, Jol not happy with him at all after the FA Cup incident, but I don't think they'll find any decent bidders for him anway.
Defoe to Chelsea is said to be partly the work of SFX trying to put pressure on the club via the media in Defoe's contract negotions, that and the usual tabloid "create a story when things are quiet" method.
Gardner to Southampton is something Jol denied but has come up before, Rupert Lowe himself is said to be keen. Seems Jol may want to keep him, although if Southampton come up with 3 million, I'm sure they'll be tempted.

thanks for the update sendo, I'm sad we aren't still interested in Reid, but I guess we can't get 'em all.
I love the idea of Routledge, Ashton and Wilhelmsson becoming Spurs though a lot! :)
Gardner is super-talented, but he doesn't appear to have the temperment to succeed in this league and if we can get 3 million for him I'd definately pull the trigger.

Simon Davies is said to be joining Everton for just under 3 million pounds. May be announced today by the Everton chairman at their AGM.
I am glad if this is sorted, Sigh-man has not recovered his form from 2-3 years ago and has no pace left after his injuries. This money means we will surely be able to get Routledge and Wilhelmsson, and we won't have the possibility of the cumbersome Brett Emerton in a swap deal.

Its disappointing that Davies is being linked with moves for under £3m when a couple of years ago he was linked with moves away for £8m+. The only Blackburn player i would take for him is Barry Ferguson.
Out of that list i would take Routledge, Wilhemsson & possibly Ashton
I saw us along with 3 other teams mentioned with a possible move for Portsmouth's Amdy Faye

I hear there's a chance we'll bid for Shaun Wright-Phillips. He'd cost in the region of £17m and apparently we've got the money. Don't believe it myself and SWP will end up at Arsenal for sure due to daddy's connections. I see Routledge as a poor man's SWP but good enough if the price is not too high.
What about the Beattie/Kanoute swap thing? That would be great. Kanoute's a big man but doesn't use his physical presence at all. Beattie's a bulldozer and would be ideal alongside Keane or Defoe. However, i get the feeling we're going to sell all our strikers and have difficulty getting any decent ones in...

£17m? Are you mad? I'd have serious reservations about paying £7m for SWP. No club in the world other than Chelsea would ever pay that much.

No club apart from Chelsea would pay that much, but if his price was £7m i'm certain every Premiership club who could afford that would snap him up & clubs from abroad would definitely try to get him.
I would do Beattie for Kanoute & now Harry Redknapp is at Southampton that could happen.

Don't care about this Wright-Philips. Too much money and not worth it even if it was only 7 million, not when there are other options. Can get Wilhelmsson and Routledge for that and I would rather have both of them as things stand than one SWP.
It seems that Davies is now being priced higher than 2.8 million, although that may be the club just negotiating. I hope to see the back of him, anything over 2.5 million is a bonus imo.
Robbie Keane is apparently being reluctant to leave, this may partly be because he might have to take a wage cut. It may also be because he knows he'd be best off at Tottenham until he gets older, his contract runs out and he can jog on to Celtic.
Kanoute in part-exchange for Beattie has been dragged up again, has some legs now Harry Redknapp is in charge of Southampton. I'm not keen on Beattie, a poor man's Shearer, but he is a better bet than Kanoute who is too inconsistent and unreliable.

what do folks think about koller?
he seems like the kind of big target up front that would work well with defoe and/or keane, no?
i rather liked what i saw of him back in the anderlecht days; but i suppose that's pretty much ancient history. saw none of the czechs at euro04, and virtually none of his club play over the last couple of years. anyone know what his recent form's been like?

He is well loved at Dortmund, although he is said to have missed a few sitters this season.
He is impressive with the Czech Republic, not so much in his individual play, but what he gives to the team. A great big beanpole to hold the ball up and lay it off, also a real threat on attacking setpieces as you'd expect. With Baros being the pacey goalscorer, and Nedved/Poborsky/Rosicky as the attacking midfield they were really effective and played some terrific football.
On the downside he is 32 in March. I think his salary at Dortmund is high and they would want a fee (probably not much though with their financial troubles).
I think he'd work well with Defoe and to a lesser extent Keane, but I'm not sure if he's the best solution.

Hell, I don't want any of our players to leave, they're all good. They just need a kick up the arse.
The idea of Davies and Keano going for peanuts to Everton is stupid, and Gardner has too much potential to just get rid of like that. We should loan him to Wolves, where Hoddle is now in residence.

I agree Jumhed, Jol needs to give Davies a massive kick up the arse.
I would take Beattie for Kanoute. The reports are saying £3m + Kanoute for Beattie

Koller NOOOOOO!!!! Too old, too expensive, too rubbish. Beattie would be great!!!
Jankulovski (who is quality) is again a possibility as Juve are apparently now looking at Lazio's Caesar.
Another guy we're apparently looking at is Udinese's Brazilian defender Cribari, though i reckon we've just had scouts at Udinese games and the hacks have made this one up. Don't know anything about him anyway.
I heard we'd actually signed that icelandic ginger, is that true?
Ledley is now up for grabs at £20m. At this rate spurs are gonna be stinkin rich.....but with no decent players left.

Lazio's French midfielder Ousmane Dabo could leave the club in January.

Don't sell Ledley.
Wait at least until he refuses to resign in 4 years, but that's worse case scenario and won't happen.

I don't think that second formation will happen. Jol likes to use proper wingers and likes to use width so I think that formation would be too narrow for him. It'd be interesting to see but I'm not entirely sre it would work all that well.
I'm also not so sure Wilhelmsson could replace Ziegler just like that. Ziegler's been one of our best players this season.

Wilhelmsson is a class player. Ziegler has done well, but he's still got the look of a future left back about him, he's got a lot of ability but he's not a flair player which is what is needed at left wing.
I would expect another wide right to be signed, Routledge most likely, he'll take the place of Davies. Although maybe if the renewed bid for Jankulovski is true, we will get him for the left and Wilhelmsson/Routledge for the right.
I understand it's 4 or 5 players being signed with a few crap high earners such as Richards, Redknapp and maybe also Robbie Keane and Davies being shipped out to cover the costs.
