It's part of Nike's business plan, as well as a consequence of globalization. They're using the same tactics they used to conquer basketball: sign the biggest names and push the technology.

Sorry, I'm old school. Nike wasn't around. It was either Pumas or Adidas. Adidas can use the same tactics to regain the youth market for "football". Plus, they just entered the biggest "new" market by signing the deal with MLS.

Holy crap. It had an AP copyright, but it was at best a poorly re-written Nike press release. Amazing what passes for journalism these days. It sounds like Nike owns the world - yet they're still a clear #2 well behind adidas. #1 in England - but last I checked England was just one country. They mention the winning goals from Euro2000, but ignore either total goals - or team breakdowns for that matter.
It's mostly hyperbole. The only real facts are the incredible growth of Nike in the soccer market in the last ten years, and the fact that adidas is still clearly #1 in the marketplace.

It's good that some people like nike because of its commercials. That proves that nike is doing well to push and sell its crap.

Nike is not trying to take over football... They are just trying to make a buck. just as Adidas is. None is better or worse than the other. None is trying to take over the game or change the game. They make the same exact products and stick their logo on it. That's it. They are no different and i don't see why it matters to anyone EXCEPT Adidas or Nike execs.

That is a matter of opinion and the marketplace can tell. I am a die hard Adidas supporter because I (personally) have found the quality of their products to be far superior to the Nike products that I have bought. I do think the Nike commercials are fun, but I watch them and buy Adidas products.

Exactly.
As far as cleats go, Adidas' are much better. They seem to last much longer than any of the nike's.

I will always like Nike because of what Lance Armstrong wrote about them in his first book. Apparently, when Armstrong had cancer, while every other sponsor ran screaming away, Nike continued to pay Armstrong and stood by him through his illness and recovery. He has a quote in there like "I'll be a Nike man until I die".
I've heard lots of bad things about Nike and their manufacturing practices in the past but it was refreshing to hear something this positive about them.
