View Full Version : Addicks: Are we expecting too much too soon?

Think about it this way. We came back up in 2001, right? We haven't been down since. We have made it over the hump of being a team always fighting out of the relegation zone.

Now, we are a team fighting to stay in the middle of the table. To progress beyond that may take more time. Since I don't know, how long has Bolton been up? Machester City? Etc.?

I also think that maybe Curbishley is putting too much pressure on himself and the players at this point. They need to relax -- go out and play.

If we are all "expecting" to be in the top six and gain a European spot, maybe we are expecting it too soon.

At least we are not Millwall or West Ham. We are still in the EPL. And we are going to stay there for quite a while.

Go Addicks!

well the next 4 league games are games that an upper table team should win.. or take at least 9 points from.

these figure to be key games leading into the transfer window.. pick up some steam going into the new year and the managers could justify a big signing.

Yes and no. At the beginning of the season my expectations were high. Now they're back down to normal. I'll be happy to avoid relegation. :)

The thing that bothers me the most is that even the season when we were relegated, the players all fought hard. The games I've seen this season, the players just seem to give up, like their hearts aren't in it. The players look lost. They don't seem to have any confidence at all, yet alone swagger. I don't think I've seen a good performance from the team all season (out of the limited number of games I've seen on FSW). Even Kiely's looked out of sorts.

Charlton's first season in their present run in the top flight was the 2000/2001 season.

Bolton has been up since the 2001/2002 season.

Manchester City was relegated in the 2000/2001 season and reentered the Premiership 2002/2003 season.

Hope this helps you out.

It will be a must to get at least 7 or 8 from those matches. As those teams with the exception of Fulham are all fighting relegation. Fulham is in a tailspin so hopefully we can take advantage of it.

I don't know what to think otherwise. We lost our heart and soul (Scott Parker), our motivationanlist (Paulo Di Canio) and our magician who created something from nothing (Claus Jensen). Those three reasons are why last year's first half was so wonderful. I dread seeing the second half of this season. Our form during that period over the last ten years is awful and I don't believe that trend will stop now.

The next four games will determine if we stay clear of relegation. I'm keeping my fingers crossed......

Parker, DiCanio and Jensen were the reason I really took a liking to Charlton in the first place. It pains me to see the lack of motivation the side apparently has right now. I don't know what could fix it, but we've got to find it, if for anything to make Charlton games more fun to watch!
