Thanks! everybody, for the response and support even if I am opinionated and may seem to be a "devil's advocat".
Knowlageble and opionated fans should debate and consider all aspects of the stadium. Remeber WE HAVE ENEMIES they being; soccer haters and public spending opponants. They will trash everything about any stadium.
The other watch list people are; outside/out of town consultants. We need to challenge them to prove their claims and assumptions in a Utah situation. We live here!
And we will pay for the stadium one way or the other.
Holding's/Sinclair Oil's part of the block is assesed at $15,000,000 (Utah tax value is about at market) and the moveing and market price for Mark Miller Toyota is probably about $5,000,000. That makes it a very expensive chunk of land! Will it pay off? Not spending so much for land could mean that the $6,500,000 needed to get the Soccer and Sports Park Bond going might be fundable.
The area is one of Auto Dealerships. Will a Stadium kill off the Car lots? The hoped for development there will have to get land from some one. Once the Critical Mass of Dealerships drops below a certain level they will all leave and go to Murray, Sandy or West Valley City. This brings up an important tax point: New Auto sales pay a 6+% Sales Tax (firstime registration). The sale of 1000 cars a year means a lot of Sales Tax. What combination of replacement land use will generate an equal amount of Sales Tax?
What Liquior/beer Liscenses will move to the area? A stadium will not create any, that is the Contol Board's job and only population increase will legally justify more.
I have renderings of my own ideas for a stadium if someone will post them for me or tell me how to do it.

.
Does the Delta Center have a liquor license or just a beer license?
If the Delta Center gets one, then Overstock.Com Stadium gets one.
The Riot Squad by themselves will drink enough to balance the state budget.

Huntsman Corp.
Dave Checketts happens to be good friends with the Huntsman Family this could play out to Stadium naming...
Also DC is friends will a certain Eccels family that likes to give large sums of money to people in exchange for certain names appearing on the buildings... like say Rice-Eccels Stadium. A quick look and you can probably find 15 or 20 foundations and/or buildings will the Eccels name on it.
That said I see the name being Eccels Soccer Center (or Park).

You don't think the Huntsmans' name on the stadium might be over the top?
I mean considering Sr. Hunstman is a LDS church leader and one of the richest Utahns around and Jr. Huntsman just got elected governor. :D
Nice to know RSL has such high up friends.

Well they already have The Huntsman Center and Huntsman Cancer Research Institute. But, as I said, I think it is more likely to e an Eccles project. But, I wouldn't be at all suprised if the Huntsman Family kicked money in through the back door, if they haven't already.

Stadium looks pimpin'.
That corner entrance is too Ceasar's Palace -- not a big fan.
But I love the facade on the sideline with the arch, shingled roofline, tower, and eves.

I think it was far too early to release any sort of rendering. They havent even secured a site or financing. Whilst I hope the stadium in the rendering is what gets built, I think that they might experience what happened in Dallas when they actually saw what is getting built apart from what they thought they were going to receive.
So far the Chicago side played it cards right by waiting until site and financing was secured before releasing anything official. That way the supporters arent disappointed when a "wok" is built, like what Dallas is getting.
Having said that I think the stadium renders looks ace. The name is appropriate. Thought the team still needs to be modified to Royal Salt Lake.

Hmm, I hate to rip, but sometimes when people speak straight out of their A$$holes, I get fired up.
Think for a minute. There are 2 cities vying for the stadium. The ownership really wants two things: 1) the land for free, 2) the county to throw in 30 million toward construction. There have been 2 polls within the last month, both of which show that the public does not support public financing of the stadium. In response, RSL has gone offensive by putting out as much positive news about the possible stadium including...ta-da...a rendering. Hopefully, Joe Public looks at the stadium rendering, says "that looks nice" and decides to vote for a $30 mil bond to help pay for it.
Additionally, you notice that the rendering was of the proposed "downtown" location? Why would that be? Because the downtown deal is still in play. Murray has done the best they can and SLC has the ball in their court. If a rendering helps one of the counsel members say "that looks nice" and they decide to sweeten the pot so RSL can meet goals 1 and 2, then the rendering did its job.
So, long point short, you apparently have no clue of what is ReALly happening in SLC regarding the stadium, therefore your uneducated blatherings regarding whether someone may be disappointed if the preliminary renderings do not match the exact stadium that is built do nothing but cause my blood pressure to rise (which my doc say is a bad thing)... All that matters now is that the renderings help the stadium get built...

Deep breathes...everyone is welcomed to their opinions. Just as long as they don't degrade or slam someone else, even on BS.
Lets just all agree that we want there to be a MLS stadium in Utah for RSL.
RSL as in Real Salt Lake! :D

Well good now that he is dead and gone (poor sod). Maybe the rest of you could re-read the post. I said I HOPE that the stadium in the pics is built as its very nice. I was just saying they should have had more difinitive plans in place before releasing renderings. After all...Harrison renderings were released several times and they have been close to breaking ground a billion times and yet many months laters they still have nothing to show.
And in Dallas they had funding and a town to help construct their ground, but their stadium is drastically scaled down to a shadow of what it was supposed to be. Resulting in a huge let down for the Puking Pony supporters.
The excitement around SLC is great and its good that the club is getting positive media coverage. (We all could benefit from that). I just hope that it turns out for the best, and not a massive let down like the rubbish being constructed in Dallas or the silence coming out of the Metrostars front office.
We MLS suppporters have no control over backroom deals and city governments that choose to screw over the supporters and fans of clubs across the country. Thats not a negative comment SLC, its just a ReALISTIC one. Calm down.

Or you could. His head exploded because you not only brought up your brilliant idea to change RSL's name, but you brought it up in the stadium thread. Maybe you don't know, but we were sick of people's brilliant ideas to change RSL's name a long time ago.

Excuse me......did you say, "rubbish"?
I'm speechless, but I'm sure someone will think of the right words and share them with you.

I hated to do it, but Neg Rep had to be left. You had about 93 other threads to choose from to discuss this topic even though you're abou 6 months behind the times.

As a late arrival, it would be helpful if all could stay on topic. Personally I would love a downtown stadium, although the Murray site doesn't bother me. I live about a 7 minute walk from a TRAX station so either works. I just hope we don't have to play in the home of the Utes for more than two years.
Hail the Utah Aggies! :D
