Final 2002 MLS WPL Prediction League Standings:

The Weekly Cup:

Want proof that you can't keep a good man down? Soccertom waited until
the last week of the season, but has now earned the distinction of having
won a weekly cup in each of the WPL's three seasons. MadSirAlexxx also
waited until the last possible week to win his first cup.

Of the four title contenders, three (all but me) made this week's cup.

1. MadSirAlexxx, soccertom......................7.5
3. Scribe and Son, Whirlwind....................6.5
5. DenverFan1, dred, empennage, Fanaddict,
Flashman, goyette82, IASocFan, Out of Touch,
sljohn, themrs................................5

The First Division - Well, it came down to the last day of the season.
IASocFan's strategy was to come out early and post his picks, which I
think is admirable. DenverFan1 appeared to offer his legitimate winners,
while empennage and I tried gaming strategies based on IASocFan's picks.
A Columbus win by two goals today would have given me the title outright.
Any other Columbus win would have tied me with IASocFan, and empennage
could have joined us if his prediction for Columbus had been exactly
right. Unfortunately for empennage and me, IASocFan knew what he was
doing when he picked the Fire to win today (as did DenverFan1), and
IASocFan is your 2002 BigSoccer WPL Champion. Congratulations, IASocFan.

I'll post a more detailed table later, with notations about past
performances, Cup wins, Cup appearances and the like. It might be a
couple of weeks. Congratulations to all of our First Division
participants on an excellent season. I must particularly mention
tolbuck, who did exactly what was needed to slip into the First Division
on the last day of the season.

Congrats IASocFan for winning the title, but you better watch your back next season. ;)

And once again thanks jlo for all the hard work you've put into the prediction league even if those guys in the general forum exiled us to no man's land.

jlo, thanks for your efforts!

My secret - don't be afraid to pick against my favorite team (Go Wizards). I win either way.

Congrats to you IASocFan! I agree with your stategy however I just couldn't force myself to pick against the Wizards! I have been burned by them the last 2 seasons.

Congrats to IASocFan. All that hard work paid off. :)

I did NOT reach my goal of a Top Ten finish. And I didn't win one weekly Cup. My supporter groups are all over me and it's possible the manager may get sacked before next year. My club has higher expectations than that!!!

It's been a great year. And once again, my sincere thanx to jlo who runs a fine competition.

jlo, great stuff yet again, and thanks. I'm sure ou get a lot of suggestions, and probably have heard this one before, but what about this:

1-Start next WPL season with everyone in the division they finished this season in.
2-Each WPL season could be say 7 weeks long.
3-Then have promotion/relegation of 2-3 clubs up and down between divisions, and start the "season" over for 7 weeks. Rinse and repeat.

Jaust a thought. Thanks again.

dawgpound, I like that idea. It would make the divisions more meaningful. I will take it up with next year's participants.
