The Eagles (if you are over 35, you are old enough to remember when they had a career) are playing the Meadowlands Arena on March 31 & April 1 (http://www.meadowlands.com/eventDetail.asp?navID=6&EventID=1693&facility=Continental%20Airlines%20Arena), tickets on sale November 22nd. They (the meadowlands) sent out an pre-sale announcment, mentioning the following prices:
$ 25
$ 49.50
$ 87
$ 177
Seriously man, $ 177? Do I get to sing vocal on Lyin' Eyes for $ 177? Do I get part of Timothy B. Schmit's really bad weave for $ 177? For $ 177, does Joe Walsh get mad and throw crap at me the way he does to Don Henley for taking credit for Hotel California?
And, why is the tour called "Farewell I"?
Is there going to be more than 1 "farewell"? Cause, that kind of cheapens the first 7 good-byes, if you say good-bye 8 times. My stepfather laughed when his kid bought Final Fantasy 10, because it wasn't really the Final one, was it?
Same here man, if these guys can't friggin' retire already, then they can't call a tour "Farewell" anything, and they sure as shi-yot can't expect someone to fork over $ 177 a pop to watch their crap.
Okay, back to decaf.

Once you've passed the $100 barrier -- which, let's face it, nearly every 40- and 50-something act has done that recently -- $177 is not that much of a psychic leap. The Eagles were charging $100 a piece to see them on the Hell Freezes Over tour in 1994.
I'm scared to death to find out what U2's prices are going to be in the spring.

If they can get dopes to fill arenas at that price, more power to them...at least I know I'll be able to find a parking spot and a nice restaurant table in my yuppie town those nights while all the suits and bim wives are at The Swamp whooping it up for "Heartache Tonight".

Sitting in the middle of the $177 section would have to be the definition of hell. Surrounded by the jacknuts willing to pay that price and having to listen to the Eagles. Good God! I think I'd rather do five years at the Cook County Jail.

They're just setting you up for the Rolling Stones 'Steel WheelChair' tour.

I get what Footix is saying, if they can find a dumbass willing to fork it over, fine, but $ 177 is still a lot of coin. It's not Barbara Striesand fund raiser coin, but it's pretty big.
Plus, the real problem here is the following: They haven't really "done" anything in the last 25 years, other than be moody and apart, then moody and back together for a lameass concert tour. Now this, lameass concert tour, part deux. "Hey man, I was thinkin'...on the arrangement for 'Life in the fast lane'...what if we did it the same way as last time?"
U2, on the other hand, has released a pretty successful album in 2000, just released another new album, and are still "relevant", though moreso perhaps to the now monied 30-40 somethings than the taking money out of mom's wallet teenagers they were playing to back when Joshua Tree was around. $ 150 plus for their show is one thing. It's bad, but inflation is a mofo. Compare their recent output to that of the Eagles, and $ 177 starts to look a lot more like the "Glenn Frey needs a new Lexus SUV" moneygrab that it is.
But, maybe that's just me.

Needless to say, the Eagles aren't worth $177 a ticket.
And no other country and western act is worth $177 a ticket, save for the resurrected Johnny Cash and Hank Williams Sr. doublebill.

People were morons to pay a c-note for the Eagles 10 years ago and they will be bigger morons to pay more in 2005.

Any post that could completely put across my distaste and hatred for the Eagles and the majority of their fans would so full of vitriol and poison that it would probably shut down this entire website.

To quote the great Mojo Nixon, Don Hendly must die! He must not get back with Glen Frey!

Yep. You can't blame the band, if idiots are willing to pay it.

I made 2 shows in their last tour (one of which was on my dad's dime), I'll be lucky if I'm able to get to one this time :(

Sounds like someone's mutual fund isn't making the grade.
(Grand)Daddy needs a new Ferrari!
*sigh* get used to it. The rest of the band could die in a fiery plane crash, but Don Henley would still tour solo as "the Eagle", the greedy bastard.
Maybe they could tour with that fat biotch Linda Ronstadt and be sponsored by Depends and Ensure.

Yea, you can. There's plenty of blame to go around.

It's already been resolved that The Eagles (that is, the band) suck. The only question is whether or not they're worth $177 to their fans. And here, generally I'm with Alex: if people are stupid enough to pay the money, then there's no reason why a scalper should get it instead of the band.

Out of curiousity, how much does a band like the Eagles get paid for playing a place like Byrne Arena? If you figure that all of those tickets average out to about $50 a ticket and the place holds about 20K, that's a million-dollar gross if they sell it out. More realistically, they'll get 15K, so that's a $750K gross. How much would the promoter get and how much does the promoter have to pay The Eagles?
By the way, I think a lot of my scorn for the Eagles goes back to when I was working as a flagman for a surveying crew on the Sunrise Hwy on Long Island in the dead of winter; noisy, dangerous and cold as sh!t.
I remember the guy I had to stand with all day constantly yelling to me about a TV broadcast of one of the Eagles reunion shows and how amazing it was. He kept spewing crap like, "You should have seen the guy's face when he was singing 'Hotel California'! He was so into it, man! He was really into that song!" Combined with the miserable job/conditions, the guy drove me nuts. And now I'm like one of Pavlo's dogs when someone mentions the Eagles.

No doubt. But you do bring up an interesting question. What are the $ 177 seats going to be scalped for? $ 250? $ 400? Damn, man. Just...damn.
BTW, Cher tickets are on sale, same arena, also a "farewell tour", for $ 125.25
(Did they really need the extra quarter?).
And they've sold out at that price level.
It's probably a good time to stop ripping on The Eagles and start talking about why people are this hard up for bad music. :eek:
