NZ provincial teams in Aussie domestic league? (http://aus.cricinfo.com/link_to_database/ARCHIVE/CRICKET_NEWS/2004/NOV/101936_AUS_15NOV2004.html)
not a bad idea, is it? it benefits both national teams, as well as creates better domestic matches and rivalries. whats a negative point to it? hey, it works for soccer, it should work for cricket.
who knew they used to play in australia up until '75?

I thought New Zealand were part of the Sheffield Shield back then, not their provincial teams?
I'm not so sure it would be a good idea. Australia has a pretty good set up with their domestic cricket, the Pura Cup and the ING Cup... why would we need to change that?

NZ played in the Gillette cup - now the ING cup - the limited overs series.
Never in the Sheffield Shield.
The provincial teams would be too weak, and make the competition too big, but as suggested a combined North Island and combined South Island team would be ok.
