I've challanged a few teams, and those people were online at the time of the challange....

it can be mind numbing sometimes, but you have to just challenge a bunch of people and hope you get someone to accept. I usually get alot of requests for friendlies myself, not sure why you aren't
If you are online are you easily notified that you've been challanged?

You can also look in the "ads" section of the conferences to try and schedule a last minute friendly. That's worked for me a few times.

You are if you have supporter (it shows up in the little message box in the bottom of the window). If you don't have supporter, you have to check your "my hattrick" page.
Keep challenging people who are online. I challenged about 50 people who were online in Bavaria this morning to schedule my friendly for next week (I'm doing an international alcohol tour).
