How can hockey fans in North America follow the leagues in Europe? With the huge influx of talent now having made its' way to Europe via the NHL, isn't it time that some of these games were televised? I for one would love to see AK Bars Kazan play. Have you folks seen their roster...Richards, Lecavalier, Kovalchuk, Antropov, Brathwaite, etc...sick!

It sucks that there isn't TV coverage for those leagues. Maybe we can get some torrents somehow? I was hoping ESPN would get some of these leagues to supplant the NHL lockout, but they really just don't care about hockey in the first place. I get a lot of college hockey and farm league stuff, but I'd much prefer the Euro leagues.

You could ask about it in the Russia forum. Zenit explains how you can watch Russian tv in north America there.

Is that the "Former Soviet Union" forum? I'll check there, thanks.

If you're interested in specific players, I'd check out message boards specific to their teams. i.e., for Kovalchuk check out www.smirkinchicken.com, there are usually a couple people with the language skills to keep up with official websites and foreign newspapers.
And, you know, if you want an excuse to learn Russian, there's always that.

It's impossible to watch European hockey while in North America. With that being said, the Internet provides a wealth of options.
SM-Liiga, Finland: If you wish to follow the Finnish game, a base of Finnish knowledge is advisable. www.yle.fi ---> Urheilu has some video clips of games. Jääkiekko is the Finnish word for hockey. The official site is www.sm-liiga.fi , though it is only in Finnish.
Eliteserien, Sweden: The Swedish game is very similar to NHL stnadards. A lot of players are there now. www.svt.se is a very good site to see video clips. My favorite team, Linköping HC is a great website that contains a lot of links to other teams and the league.
I can't help with the Russian or Swiss league, because I don't follow them.

No American or Canadian TV Channel would touch that SCAB ladden product. These players make me sick. What right do they have to go and take away the jobs of Europeans. Greedy bunch of Bastards that they are.
Watch how they would react or will when replacment players are brought in. Hope it does not come to that. They were offered 54% of the League revenue. Lets see if they have common sense and take it.

What the hell are you talking about? The players aren't on strike, and nobody else is on strike, so how can you call them scabs? They are locked out of their current contracts, so of course they are going to find other work. Why would they waste their prime years not playing? The players shouldn't accept any of Bettman's dumb proposals because not only do the players lose, the fans do much much worse. A salary cap is bad for fans, period. Parity sucks, and when I liked the NHL, I was a fan of a small market team. But I still think forced parity sucks.

How do the fans lose when every team has a legit shot to put a winner on the ice.
I dont want the NHL to become Euoropean Soccer where the rich few elite win year after year. That sucks. Whats wrong with a small side having a chance to win.

I guess I spoke to soon.
Sportsnet in Canada have some Sweedish League on . I saw a game last night. Mora Vs someone cant recall. It was brutal. The Level of Play is less that the AHL. I cant imagine how bad it is when there are no Scabs playing there.
