Chelsea looks like they have closed the doors on Robinho and have turned their attention to Joaquim from Real Betis. They are looking to pay $20 million for his services.

i think you mean Joaquin my fellow vancouverite;)

if we do buy him (joaquin) in january, it will be for next season i think, as we did with Robben.

Joaquin on the right, and Robben on the left would mean Chelsea has the best young left winger and best young right wingers in the world. Joaquin might be the best right winger in the world, period. Robben isn't far from it, if he continues to develop.

Duff is good, but I don't put him in the class of Robben or Joaquin.

Um...
Sorry, can't agree with that at all.
Duffer and Robben are about equal imo.
Joaquin is behind both untill he can prove himself in English football.

Unfortunately, I can't see all 3 being happy, even if we stick with playing 2 wingers every week (and that's definitely not a given). I hope we don't succumb to buying him to keep him away from other teams. I mean, we already have done that with Robinho, Alex, and Beasley, right? ;)

No, thats good i think. the only other Joaquin i can think of (and thus the only other time i hear the name aloud) is the actor Joaquin Phoenix from the movie The Village.

i'll second that 100%,both duff and robben have differant strenghts and weakness's than each other but as awhole their both pretty much the compleate package when it comes to defending, dribbleing, crossing and scoreing, takeing this into account i also believe that their very equal in their over all individual ability.

Well, lets' be fair - When Duffer's not been injured he's been doing well for about a year or so for us now. Robben's only played about 5 games. He's been great so far but there's a ways to go yet before we start pronoucing one way or the other as to which is best.

Regarding Joaquin, I've seen him play incredibly well sometimes and I've also seen him play games where I had to check the line-up at half time to confirm he was still on the pitch. If we want someone to float in and out of games we've already got Cole - we don't need another one... and at least he'll fight for the shirt.

I said about a year ago that Joaquin was a good target having seen him once or twice in the Spanish league... then I watched him in Euro2004.

Hmmm... dunno.

Last week vs. Albacete for example. i was hoping the Barca game would be on, but it was the Betis game instead, oh well i thought, at least i can get another look at Joaquin. ugg. turned it off midway through the 2nd half. he was great last season vs. Real Madrid.
