I woke up this morning wonder whether to sell Geremi. I didn't even say hello to anyone, I just sat there over my oatmeal and dwelled on it. Is that ok? :D

In my Barca season (04/05) Colorado and Metrostars were in the MLS Final. Metrostars won on penalties (3-0) completely unrealistic!
Metrostars will never see the MLS Cup Final till 2010!
When I played as the US Nat manager the Rapids we're in the final a couple years in a row. I played the Rapids in CM4 and they always were a great team. The stadium is so big, so you get 30,000 on a regular basis. The club is rich and can splash cash on foriegners.

OK, so I have a related question. I'm currently playing with Levski Sofia in the Bulgarian league. We've got a big stadium, over 25k seats. My team does well and we've finished in the European places the last 3 years. I CAN'T GET ANYBODY TO THE STADIUM, however. My league matches against anybody other than CSKA Sofia only draw ~5k fans. I've had to sell a lot of my good players to keep my finances in order. If I could actually draw people to the stadium I could be a buyer and not a seller. Do you guys know any tricks?

Keep building your reputation and move to a bigger club. Some things just don't change, assuming the CM code boys haven't programmed some economic evolution for Eastern Europe.

You are probably in trouble. Min/Avg/Max attendance is hardcoded in and I don't think attendance will fluctuate outside of that range. Time to move to a bigger club I think.

Yeah I know. I kind of wanted to see if I could take a Bulgarian club to great heights. With my available resources I've bought most of the young talent in the country, and my players are really improving. I've reached the knockout stages of the Champions League in my 3rd year, but I can't see myself progressing any further without an infusion of cash. Oh well, but I'll never go to those pigs CSKA Sofia.

its based on a formula which uses the club reputation, opposition reputation and competition reputation to generate it - The average is basically what the club will average with its starting reputation, but the maximum is usually much, much higher - Levski Sofia's is 25,000 - for example, I'm playing as Anundsjo IF, with the game set to start from July (mid-season in Sweden) - they were looking set to get relegated, but I managed to keep them up and the next season the crowd increased from 300 odd (around the average in the database), to about 1500 most games (with the maximum in the database being 10,000)

There are some problem with attendence beyond poor research and silly hardcoded max and avg numbers. There are bugs that can lead to declining long term numbers and some weird ones where you'll get less for a great matchup than a game against a team with no chance. There was a bunch of threads on SI's site about all of these and I'm sure that many of the issues haven't been adressed. It is a shame that they can kill games no matter how well you do otherwise.
The really annoying thing to me is the problems with the research. It is really spotty with clubs outside of the top leagues having serious problems and many small clubs have no numbers in the database (or ones that were obviously just guesses) so the game generates a bunch of them. I can understand that with really obscure clubs in the bottom division from nations with little standing in football but when clubs just one division down from the top level in great football nations like Holland have massive problems than I get ticked.

One night I stayed up all night on a work-day pontificated, when and who I should sell Patrick Kluivert and which striker to obtain.

I hope the answer was no. When I played Barca in CM4 Kluivert was the man. He had 40 goals for me one season and 35 the next.

By the way JohnR, advanced to the knockout stage of the CL with a glorious 3-1 win over Inter at home.
This all after Roman pulled the rug out from under me and paid $160 million for Totti and Ronaldinho, ruining my transfer bid for Robinho, which was awaiting a work permit. Lucky for him those guys are lighting it up..........

Ah yes, life with a club where players want to come, unlike friggin' Woking. I only get the big-name stars when they're 35 and Milan, Lazio, Barca et al won't offer them contracts.
How many hours does it take you to play a month of a season in Football Manager? In CM 01/02 it takes me about 3, maybe 4 if there are a lot of fixtures.
Haven't started my FM experience yet. Gotta download the patch, will do so this weekend. I'm thinking Yeovil Town.

This was CM 03/04 I was speaking of in particular. And it was season 4 I believe. Kluivert was 31 I think. Those days were gone I'm afriad.
My very first CM game was CM4. And I signed Roy Makaay to play alongside Mr. Kluivert and they proceeded to combine for 60 goals in the first season.

Might be time to upgrade your system. I think I can get through a month in an hour or less if I really sit and concentrate. It also depends on how many league you are running. My game right now has Spain, England, Germany, France and maybe one other, I think. I want to stick with Barca until the big name players starting the game are old and I am in the Spanish hall of fame. Then I'll look at a glamorous move to England. :)

My system's fast. I'm slow.
I tinker with training. I check every player after every game to see if they're carrying a potential injury, and if so I move them to No Training for 3 days, then Light for 3 days. I tinker with tactics -- will adjust individuals for passing style, crossing, pressing etc. depending upon their health & attributes. I play the games only on Medium speed. I periodically browse through club & international team squads to see if I want to add somebody to a short list.
Those things are what eat up the time, not the system.

Does anyone leave it on auto-train? basically letting the assistant manager handle training? I don't but sometimes training can be a headache...
I often think of what transfer deal will fall through... I a bum... even though I'm w/ United I still buy over the hill players like Zidane and Bergkamp... both were essential buys though... Bergie played well in his first 6mths but after that was trash and ZiZou's been w/ the team for 6months and has been tearing it up...
I will never get the goal totals you guys are talking about because I play just 1 out and out striker and due to my formation emphasizing on creativity and the fact that all my CM's can shoot I get goal out puts like this...
Ruud - 25
Rooney - 20
Pazzini - 20
Zidane - 14
Scholes - 8
Ronaldo - 8
Downing - 8
Baptista - 8
Rio - 5 :D
I'm generally very balanced as you see... Rooney is the anomaly... he plays as a withdrawn striker and only gets half of his goals in a traditional manner, the others he bapitizes CB's or FB's and DM's and lets fly from 30yards or curls at impossible speeds and angles...
