Well a visit to two area Game Stops has led to a lot of dumb looks and complete frustration. Anyone with a tip on how best to buy the game?
--I bought mine straight off of the Gamestop website.

Thanks for the info. I have indeed found a copy of the game at a nearby store.

The game requires 128 MB of RAM, but recommends 256. I have 128 - will it work on my computer?

It will work but you will not be able to simulate many leagues at once with any type of playable speed and reaction time. I would think about Upgrading also.

OK - well I'm trying to figure out how to do this right. Suffiicent equipment comes up regarding my kids as well, so I might be better served to get a new machine for gaming. This machine is tied up all the time with work anyway.

Anyone out there have a suggestion on the optimal hardware/goodies configuration for playing FM at the highest level possible (I once had a CM game installed at work where I could run like 30 leagues as active and the processing took almost no time at all. It was incredible).

I'm not a computer nerd so any help you can provide is appreciated. I'm guess 512 KB of RAM, yes?

Yeah. Get yourself a 3 gig processor as well with Pentium 4.

I have 2.8 gig, I've not tried running 30 leagues - Its pretty quick on the 5 that I use.

BTW, its 512MB of RAM.
I'm running 34 Leagues in 16 Nations myself. I have a 1GB of RAM and a 2.0GHZ processor. I want to upgrade as well. But a GIG of RAM is definitely a step in the right direction.

I wouldn't jump on the Pentium 4 bandwagon right away. For playing FM, its good what with the HyperThreading. But an AMD Athlon 64 would be good enough.

You'll need more RAM than that if you want to run a lot of leagues at a reasonable rate. The things to foucus on for FM are your main processor (I'd recommend Athlon not Intel since the top end is owned by Athlon now), RAM, and a fairly big harddrive to take all of the multi-100mb save games and leave plenty of swap space for the game.

I'm waiting a bit longer to upgrade my computer but those plus a dual graphics card setup and a DVD writer are my key components for game playing.

Just making sure you guys knew that a new version of FM is out. It is 5.05 and fixes a couple of problems.

Football Manager 2005 v5.0.5
----------------------------

Please note, this patch is save game compatible and contains all the fixes in 5.0.2. You do not need to start a new game, however for the best results it is suggested.

- Fixed columns moving around when using the filter panel and changing the filter, then hiding the filter panel.
- Ensured club's don't recieve more than 20 regens players in a year
- Fixed Italian stadium bug fix
- Stopped interfering buying chairman from making the club bankrupt
- Fixed shortlist crash
- Removed limit on foreign players for Australian squads. (Previous fix only applied to match squads)
- Fixed UEFA coefficient calculation for 2004/05 season. Predefined UEFA Cup teams from the database were not updating the nation team count value thus resulting in a higher than usual coefficient.

That first one was driving me nuts and I've been bugging them to fix it for months.

Have they fixed the daft limitations on foreigners in the Ukraininan league?

I had to download an unofficial patch to fix that.

Cancel the milk, make sure you've got some hot water for a bath and you might want to buy a razor blade to trim that beard........

:D

Hey guys, what's your biggest FM / CM marathon? (i.e - what's the longest you have played consecutively?)

Also what's your best addictiveness rating?

Mine was "all CM and no work! hooray!"

 - I think you should check the obituaries to see if you have been declared officially dead!

Heh he. I'm alive. Sometimes I leave to game on over night just so I don't have to load it if I just want to get a match or two in before work. :) I think the time played is probably distorted.

So I've got my third season with Barca underway. No major off-season transfers beyond Dede. He's been a nice addition by the way, earning a 10 in a league win. I've never seen a left-back do that. I also a young Croation AM who has slipped into the starting 11 very well. He's scored a couple goals and made some nice assists. Guily will not be missed, especially once Rosicky is over his nagging leg injury. I've got 10 points in the league off 4 games, so there is one away draw in there. I'm tied for first with a few other teams but Real Madrid is not one of them, so I like that. I won the Spanish Super Cup for the second year in a row. It wasn't too tough since I won the double and only had to beat Celta of the second division, my foe in the Spanish Cup Final.

So in three seasons I have 4 cups and a league title. I have 80 points in the hall of fame, one more championship and I'll get into the Spanish hall of fame.

Don't know. Was it even reported to SI by one of you guys?

I never play MLS so I didn't see it myself. I passed along the comments I read in here but I doubt they paid attention since I was talking about a bug I hadn't actually seen.

In my Barca season (04/05) Colorado and Metrostars were in the MLS Final. Metrostars won on penalties (3-0) completely unrealistic!

Metrostars will never see the MLS Cup Final till 2010!
