My current FM game...
I decided to start with Weymouth in the conference south. In my first season i took them to 4th place which was good enough for a playoff place however i lost my playoff semi final over 2 legs :(
In my second season i guided Weymouth to 2nd place and with only a month of the season left i recieved an offer from Barnsley in the 2nd division. They were in danger of getting relegated but i decided i wanted a bigger challenge and took the job. I managed to save them from relegation :)
Im entering my 3rd season now and have made some pretty good signings so here's hoping for a good 2006/2007 season with Barnsley!

Bonji: Obviously, I was joking.
Yes, I try to Mimic Barca's real-life 4-3-3, except I brought in Mascherano from River and Dede from Dortmund. Yes, I was also hit with the Devasting Injury Bug, I lost Edmilson, and Giuly for a stretch.

I was playing with Standard Liege, won a Cup, got them into Europe, was 2nd the following season..then suddenly the game won't save. I've got plenty of memory, but it crapped out on me.

Right now I have Barca in third with a 5-1-0 record for 16 points. Madrid and Valencia are in front of me both with 6-0-0 records. Giuly and Ronaldinho have been playing out of their heads. I think they both have over 9 avg. ratings over 6 games in the league. In the Champions League I lost 2-0 to ManUre, in Manchester, and beat FC Basel 6-0 at home. My new signing Andrea Pirlo isn't turning into the midfield rock I'd hoped. He's a D Mid with really high creativity and passing so I've got to figure out some good instructions for him. I'm looking forward to beating Madrid and Valencia soon so that I can take sol possession of first.
Does anyone out there make pre-game comments about other managers if they don't about you first? I did the other day and some players reacted positivly and others didn't like it. We shutout the team, 2-0, so I backed up the smack. However, I'm not sure I'll keep doing it if some players aren't going to like it.
Has anyone started with a big club in FM 2005 and had players doubt your ability? Is there anything you can do to make them believe in you aside from winning?

Just give Ancellotti a call. :) Pirlo was an attacking mid until Ancellotti turned into an attacking mid that sits deep and controls play. So sorta a DM but not in the traditional sense.

I always say positive things about the managers im facing as ive found that all my players seem to be happy when i do this. However i find also if you comment on how you would love a victory against the team then the players get fairly confident and do well, same with when you praise a player but sometimes criticising a player does the job too.

database question:
why do you have to choose which countries and leagues to run? Can I only pick players from teams in leauges that I've selected at begining?
My computer is running slow. When I get home I'm going to disable some of the start up programs and allocate more space for Virtual Memory

Pirlo needs to make through Balls, long shots (if he's good), Mixed Passing, Normal Mentality.
As far as formation goes, it can work.
--------------GK
Belleti--Puyol---Oleguer----Gio/Sylvinho
----------Marquez------------
------------Pirlo------------
Giuly-------Deco/Xavi---------Ronaldinho
-----------Eto'o----------------------
Or you could put Pirlo next to Marquez and give Pirlo a Forward Arrow. But give Marquez a Defensive Mentality, but not too Defensive. And Encourage Belleti and Gio to Overlap

Also, you can give Giuly an arrow toward the 18 yard box next to Eto'o. As for Marquez (the Destroyer) set his Closing Down on "Angry" and tackling on "Keane"

i have AJAX, current season - after they lost a 6-3, i blasted like 4 key players... they've now won 8 straight

Wow, that is good to know. I don't know if I've ever given negative coments since they started allowing you to do so. I'll have to do that if we get blown out sometime, or if we lose 2-0 to Man U at home.

I have Marquex as my left center back, Puyol is the other CB. I have them both man marking and hard tackling. I'll have to check their closing down.

I'll remember this one too.
Thanks to everyone's help. Tonight my wife has class so I'm sure it'll be a WSM night. :)

I'm stuck in class right now :(
I'm managing Chelsea and we were 11 points clear up top (Arsenal chasing) but got waxed at home by Man. Utd. I had accidentally left Cudicini in after a cup match and he was horrid. Two minutes into the match he was about 30 yards from goal taking a free kick. It bounced off Rooney into the net! Lampard was awful and Terry (captain) struggled as well.
Love the game, though! Rebounded by whipping Villa in cup action and scoring three in the final 15 to beat Middlesbrough in FA action.
Almost time for my other self to come back from holiday in time for the the MLS combine and spring training with DC United.

yeah, so i get WSM2005 and I decide to get a new computer. My friend is going to build me one. My computer right now is old and I needed an upgrade anyways. I told him it had to run this game and I'm only getting a new tower. I'm going to keep the monitor, keyboard, mouse, and speakers from my old one.
I took over Notts COunty. No clue how the transfers work, but i'm 10th in League 2

Good call on getting a new machine. Splurge for a lot of RAM. I'd go with 1GB if I were you. The game is RAM intensive. Also, I've always wanted to get a Athlon 64 and run it on there to see if that speeds things up a lot. If you do that and let us know, I'd appreciate it. :)
What do you want to know about the transfer market? Do you follow English Football at all? It works very much like the real thing. There are opening and closing dates when you can and can't transfer players. However, you can buy someone while the window is closed and he'll show up once it opens again.

Pirlo is doing better. He's hotted up a bit. :) He got a 10 rating in a game where everyone else got 7's and we tied. I played Madrid at home last night. We out played them and they got a late equalizer to draw the match. Bollocks! My big worry is keeper right now. My starter, Valdez, is young and has a run of 6 ratings every once and awhile. To win La Liga I am going to need a stand out keeper.

i'll look into the RAM.
my computer is just so slow and Notts Country has no money at all so I haven't really dove into it. It takes forever to load so I haven't really bothered. Plus I'm playing ok, I just need to figure out what to tell my player to do. I now how the transfer markets work, i just don't know how they work in the game, like listing players as available or loaning and all that crap.

I signed Zidane's regen as an 18 year old. 20 passing, 20 creativity, 20 flair. First time I've ever signed a true world-class regen, at least one who I could identify.
Friggin' annoying, he's been mediocre now for 1 1/2 years. Mostly 7s, never scores, not even many assists. Plus he's exhausted by September (stupid France call ups), so I can only play him for half a game every 2nd week.
He's an anchor of the French national team and every big-name club in Europe wants him. But he can't play for me. :(

So sell him for big money.
