The exact same thing happened to me with Not Forest last night. I dispatched Sunderland 6-1 on aggregate in the first playoff, and drew Birmingham in the final. They went up 1-0 after 10 minutes, and I changed to a more attacking style and scored with Marlon King in the 82nd minute (he scored 46 goals for me this year!!!!!). Went to penalties, where my three best players all missed (two of which hadnt missed a penalty all season). Go figure... I bet there's a bug in the game that makes us all lose these pk's.

I guarantee too that I'll gain promotion next year... I've already won my first three games. I think the fix is on.

One question on training: I like to vary the schedules of my players by using more than the first team schedule. I get sick though of changing the schedule every single day, since it always seems to default back to first team and reserves. I'd rather have my players do attacking or defending one week for the entire week and then switch and do containment and pressing or midfielders the next week. Is there a way that I can assign new training schedules for more than a day?

The PK issue could have to do with how tired the players are. Was there overtime played before the PK's?

Make sure you check your training regimen, too. I was using a schedule I downloaded from a guy at the SI site (Jamie's realistic training for ... insert position here). Through half a season my guys did not make one penalty, and no penalties were missed against me. I finally looked and found that neither my keepers nor my field players had a single Penalties session. Put in a couple and the results of penalties became more realistic.

Has anyone had an agent say take a look at video of this player. He wants to join your team, etc...?
Cool feature.

DC United won the MLS Cup over San Jose 2-1 in overtime. Unfortunately international duty meant Moreno, Nelsen and Donovan were missing for the clash. I guess I didn't pay attention to when the international dates were or it was that you had to make your international rules for your players before the MLS Cup date was listed.

Anyway, it was a really intense match. Scoreless in regulation but lots of saves by Rimando it seemed and bad misses by San Jose. United scored right near the end of OT for the win. Ben Olsen was MoM with a 10 rating.

I can email a copy if anyone wants to see it. Just PM me.

I have not had that happen yet. It seems like a cool new part of the game. I'm looking forward to it.

Yeah there was, and some of my players were hovering around 65-70% conditioning. However, the five guys I had shoot all ranked between 17-20 on PK's. The two that missed hadnt missed all year, and yes I had a penalties session worked into both the attacking and midfielders training regimens.

One rule I didnt understand well enough was the promotion release clause. I just lost my top striker, who scored 50 goals for me last year (all competitions) to Palace. Granted I am 5 million euros richer and might be able to lure a top striker in the transfer window to replace him, but it hurts. Plus my coaches kept saying not to renew his contract because it expired in 2009, but if I had when he wasnt unhappy I would still have him!!! Also, I hate it when I send my scouts out, they recommend players for me, and they always cost more than my entire transfer budget!!!!

I've found scouting countries like Belgium and regions like Scandanavia are useful... the players I find are cheap and talented.

Question -

I would ask this on SI boards if they would ever let me on the boards :(

If you make a player "indispensable" does that mean that another team will not attempt to sign him when his contract is unprotected? I ask because -

1) I cannot recall ever having this happen to me.
2) I just switched a player's contract status from "indispensable" to "first team" because he was injury prone, and immediately -- the very next day -- every major club in Europe swooped in with an offer to sign him at the next transfer window.

Anybody know?

I have and all it does is show you some highlights of the guy from one game. It's the exact same as when you have highlights on during a match, the little dot guys.

I decided to try something new, I usually am a team from England(took Peterborough to the Prem a few years back, with John O'Flynn scoring a ton, but then he has sucked in subsequent versions), Spain or Italy but I decided to be a Belgian team. I picked KV Mechelen a third division team. One of the tough rules to follow is that you have to have two players 21 or under in your lineup for every game. I don't know if this still applies in the second division as the season hasn't started yet.

Fellow WWSM addicts.

I'm having a problem and was wondering if you guys know a solution. I've been in control of the USMNT and the US U-20's. Everything's going great with the NT, however my game has stalled due to the US U-20's. The game requires that you have at least 21 players under the age of 20 for the matches. I've played long enough now that there aren't enough Americans under the age of 20 for me to fill out the roster. I was hoping that the game would "create" players to fill the slots, but it hasn't. Then I decided to put my assistant in charge of the team, and maybe he'd deal with the selection. No luck. So the game is stuck on the "NEWS" page in which it tells me to bring more players up to the team. Any ideas?

Thanks!

By the way, I won a WCQ in Azteca!! Hat-trick for Brian Ching as a substitute. Are you reading this Bruce? Plus Mastroeni broke Blanco's leg!!! Excellent!!!

I lost 1-0 in Azteca. :(

I have not had this problem but I would think you should be able to find 22+ U-20 players. The game does create new American players every off-season. They might not be starter quality, but you should be able to find them.

What size game database are you playing? I have been selecting normal instead of small at the start of my games.

I haven't managed an international side since CM99-00, but in that version I ran into the same problem you did (as manager of Poland). The fix back then was to go on holiday, then the computer will sim that match for you automatically. Hopefully that works for WWSM as well.

I'll try that, thanks! Hopefully my players aren't too confused. Rejection can be tough to take at that age. I can see poor Craig Capano feeling abondoned and crying like a little school girl.

Somebody around here used to have a sig that went something like "Without C. Blanco, Pablo Mastroeni wouldn't have a b!tch." You just can't beat this game for realism.

Thanks, that worked WarrenAbao. I just went on holiday for a day, and everything was fine. I didn't have enough U-20 players for half of a year, until the MLS combine before the 2006 season. Then the game created a new batch of scrubs.

Unfortunately my World Cup dreams were dashed in the group stages. I tied with Portugal and South Korea (weird that the game paired me with these two) and thought I was in like Flynn. Then I lost 3-0 to Guinea. There's no way Bobo Balde is that good.

I had to ditch my English game with Leeds. It just wasn't going well and I like to win. So I've started a new one with Barca. I expect good things but right now I'm only in pre-season. I signed Andrea Pirlo from Milan to beef up the defensive side of my midfield. I have an interesting Tactic, the default for Barca I guess. I decided I'd give it a try because they are deep in AM and not in Strikers.

It goes:

------------------------Victor Valdes--------------------------
--Juliano Belletti--Carles Puyol--Rafael Marquez--Silvio Sylvinho--
---------Andrea Pirlo----------Giovanni van Bronckhorst---------
---Anderson Deco---Gaucho Ronaldinho---Hernandez Xavi-------
----------------Henrik Larsson (Samuel Eto'o)------------------

I haven't decided between Larsson and Eto'o yet. I imagine they'll split time up there because of the difficult schedule. Pirlo cost $33 million of my $35 million transfer budget, but he'll be worth it. I really didn't have a good solution for that DM position on the right side and that could have kept me from taking the La Liga title.

OK. A.) With Barca you play a 4-3-3 or you play nothing at all!
B.) Where is Giuly? You have GIuly, and you choose not to use him! I am appalled!

B) He's on the bench.

A) I'm playing a glorified 4-3-3 because I have a dirth of AM. The season is about to start, I'll let you know how it goes.

Thanks for the advice on Giuly. I replaced Deco with him after Deco went down with a small injury. He's made the difference in a couple games. However, he tires very quickly. So Deco or Xavi come in for him in the second half.
