I wish someone had challenged me this morning - I would have bitch-slapped him. I was actually hoping I would see someone "challenging" this morning so I could yell at them.

I think next time around I'm going to a rich white neighborhood with some of my brothas, and we'll get all cornrowed up ghetto fabulous style and go to the polling places and stare down those white Republican muthaf******s. It's fair game, right?

John Paul Stevens is a lefty so I don't think his ruling is based upon his desire to help the GOP. Without knowing anything about this law, I trust he was fair. Although it sucks for us.

The ruling sucks and Jim Crow lives.
But,
The ruling isn't as bad as it may seem at first. One challenger per precinct will be allowed. Does anyone have any number of how many polling places there are per precinct in places like Cleveland?

This rule has been on the books for 51 years and has never been used before this election.
I can assure you that after this mess it will be voted off the books before the next election. Of course I didn't have any "challengers" in my precint, considering my precint is full of rich, old GOP-folks I was not overly shocked.

Paid Republican operatives selectively challenging voters' rights is anti-democracy. Observers are fine. Poll workers verifying voter ID is fine. Partisan operatives operating outside the law is NOT fine.

He is considered a moderate, appointed by Ford in 1975. Compared to Scalia, he is a lefty, but in reality is somewhat independent of ideology. Interesting that he unilaterally decided not to bring this to the full SCOTUS, and that the RNC had access to him under these conditions.

Every justice has a Circuit they are responsible for in reviewing emergency appeals. Stevens must have had the Sixth. More often than not the emergency appeals are rejected, and more often than not it's on procedural rather than substantive grounds. Having the Supreme Court hear arguments and issue an opinion on this case would have been impossible.
