Haven't seen a club confirmation, but this is hardly shocking. He's more trouble than he's worth. I wish him all the best, and hope that he catches on with a team that can utilize him.
Open casting call for Chelsea strikers?

wow ,even if he gets a drug ban he still has a decent transfer value .
I guess Mutu will back over to italy to play for Fiorentina before the season is out .

Yeh its true

This is exactly what i thought Mutu did on purpose was to get caught for a drug, say it doesnt enhance football performance..small fine, find a club where he can play week in week out

Shame. A great shame. I for one hope he only gets a 6 month ban. I think a two year ban would be extremely excessive and unfair. Chelsea have done a kind thing in canceling his contract in a way as after the 6 months he is a free agent and he can play for anyone who’ll have him. I hope he does well wherever he lands, but he may want to tone down his Ali-G style just a little bit.

It'll probably be more than 6 months based on the Rio ban. Hopefully he can get himself turned around or else no top club will have him. Don't want to waste the talent.

Taylor also expressed his disbelief at the suggestion Chelsea may seek to pursue a claim for compensation in an attempt to recoup some of the considerable loss they have sustained on a player bought for £15.8million just over a year ago.

'Chelsea have chosen to take this stance, they have done and they can choose zero tolerance but they can't then sack a player and say he can't go to another club to get compensation,' he said.

Don't blame Chelsea for trying to get some money back for him but if you sack a player then that is it.

It'll probably be more than 6 months based on the Rio ban.

I don't really see why as Rio showed no remorse and was obviously as guilty as hell. Mutu fessed up and should be dealt with accordingly. Arsenals Paul Merson fessed up and got no ban at all.

The Inquisition is lenient on those that confess and agree to change their ways. :D

A tad harsh. He might have made a mistake, but he is still a quality young player. I would take a gamble on Mutu.

We don't need to take gambles on players.

But what happens if he finds his form again? Surely it would be better if you gave him the chance to do that? My point was that I would definately sign Mutu to any club because if he gets straightened out, he is a fantastic player. Look at what happened to Man Utd with Cantona and Ferdinand (I know it's not technically the same, but who cares).

Well, he had a year. He didn't really show all that much. So considering we're trying to win trophies now, how much time do we need to give him? That, and he's definitely a giant distraction.
If he were as good as Cantona, we'd have kept him around. But he's just not worth it.

after bosinch getting his contract terminated over a similar incedent was it 3 years ago now?,it's no surprise,in fact it was only a matter of time before the club got rid of him.and lets be honest here,he was nothing special apart from his own special needs ;)

As a Romanian and an epl fan I would like to say thanks to Chelsea and to Mutu for finally giving me a chance to cheer for a Romanian striker in the epl. It was great while it lasted, I wish all the best for Chelsea even though they sacked Mutu. I will say this, Mutu will get back his forum wherever he goes and I wouldnt be surprised if we saw him soon back in the epl to show Chelsea what they missed out on...

Thanks,
RomoStriker

I really don't think you'll see Mutu anytime soon. Certainly not this season for anyone. He'll probably get a 6 month ban (at least) which rules him out all this year.

As for next year, he'll probably turn up at a mid-level Serie A team. His success at the point is going to be determined by how much he grows up between now and then and whether he can get his life back on track. I know the newspapers have reported tons about personal issues with him.

It's amazing for a player who showed SO MUCH PROMISE in his first ten games...

We hoped he'd work out. And, we hope that he gets better, and gets help, if that's what he needs.
Any chance you could send us Chivu instead? ;)
