Kaveh Mahjoob, IK: Iranian club Perspolis has brought Jane (pronounced Yan) Nikoloski, Macedonia's national team goalkeeper to Tehran.
It turns out that Nikoloski has a decent and impressive resume. At 189 CM (Almost 6.4), the 31 years old Nikoloski has played in 14 Macedonia national team matches and has only allowed 13 goals. Macedonia has 2 goalkeepers and over the years, they have been rotated in the national team matches. The official explanation is that the coach wants to have two goalkeepers in good shape at all times however many in the local media believe that Nikoloski is the best keeper they have had over the last 10 years.
Interestingly, Nikoloski holds the Macedonian club record of not allowing a goal in 779 consecutive minutes (almost 9 consecutive games) when he was in Sloga Jugomagnat. Another record he carries is that he didn't allow a goal in 1111 minutes of home matches for the same club. That is over 12 consecutive games not allowing a goal.
Nikoloski played his club level games at Sloga Jugomagnat and won the Macedonian championship with this team three times. Additionally, he played for Slavia Sofia (Bulgaria), and FC Apolon (Greece). Last year, Nikoloski allowed 18 goals in 33 matches with his club, Sloga Jugomagnat.
Nikoloski was the starting goalkeeper for Macedonia in the last two World Cup qualifying matches. In the first match, Macedonia surprised powerful Netherlands and tied 2 - 2. In the second match, Macedonia was surprised by a weaker team, Andorra and lost an away match, 1 - 0.
