well, we lost 2-1.
For the first 20 min, it looked like it would be another 6-1 loss, but somehow we came back into it.
Started to get a bit of shape after conceeding the first. I was behind the goal where Pompey got their PK, and to me it looked like it was never a penalty in a million years... 2-0.
Kelly was actually putting in a lot of good crosses, and Deane got on the end of one to head low into the corner to make it 2-1 at halftime.
Portsmouth were always the better side, i can't deny that, but we did look like we knew what we were doing. Simon Johnson played left midfield with Pugh playing leftback. This actually worked pretty well, and it think it was probably SJ's best game for the club. Joachim didn't do much, but Deane was putting himself about and getting the job done.
Gregan didn't do a whole lot, but Sping looked pretty good in the midfield, and Walton wasn't too bad in his centreback partnership with Carlisle.
Bring on Wigan!

We could have used that money if we could have won.

How is it that this "1st Division" Leeds team did better that the Leeds that got destroyed 6-1 by Portsmouth last season?

Well for starters, Yakubu didn't enter the game until he was subbed in. Portsmouth didn't play most of their regular starters.
